Description The M68 Linear-Induction Rifle, commonly referred to as the "M68 Gauss Rifle" or simply "Gauss Rifle," is a UNSC anti-armor rifle. The weapon was developed and tested on Reach from 2546 until 2547, when it entered service for field testing. It wasn't until 2549 that the rifle finally entered official service as an anti-armor rifle. The weapon's purpose is to destroy the engines and other vital systems protected by armor on Covenant vehicles using its high penetration caused by the high muzzle velocity.

Specifications
Length: 110 cm (43.3 in)
Barrel Length: 90 cm (35.4 in)
Scope: Adjustable (in terms of both position and zoom) 5x-20x Scope
Ammunition: 25x100mm slugs
Muzzle Velocity: 44,000 feet per second

Reloading Mechanism
To reload the M68 LIR, you pull down the casing below the drum (a set of internal gears means that this also opens the casing on either side of the drum). Once the casing reaches a certain point, none of the casing is tight enough to hold the drum, and you can easily insert a new drum and close the casing back up (only using the bottom casing). Fast hands and quick reactions to depletion of the drum will allow for extremely quick reload speeds.

Pros
The M68 LIR is a devastatingly powerful weapon, capable of punching a hole straight through a wide assortment of Covenant vehicles. Its function is as a device with high penetration, to send a projectile through armor and into vital systems that, if hit, will cause all sorts of hell. In the hands of a skilled marksman, one drum can destroy six Wraiths or even Banshees. Also, the kinetic energy from it striking an explosive target will cause said target to erupt violently.

Cons
Since the only Area of Effect caused by the M68 LIR is that of any explosive it hits, the user must know exactly where to hit his or her target AND have the skill to actually hit it in that spot. Otherwise, the round is likely to just go straight through the vehicle, or maybe kill the driver/pilot if you're lucky. In addition to this problem, the weapon (being relatively new in terms of official service) is prone to malfunctions like jams, especially while reloading. Also, as it leaves behind a trail of bright light and the sound of the projectile being charged through the barrel is loud and high, the M68 is very ineffective as a stealth weapon.

SpacePhosej, can you post this pic on Halo Fanon?

I don't really like to post to sites that combine a bunch of different peoples' fanons, because it gets all jumbled and confusing. If you want, though, you can post it there, just as long as you give me credit for the picture and any specifications in the description.

Nice design. Send this to Bungie or 343, so they can computer-animate it. Looks like a combo of the Focus Rifle and the Beam Rifle.

I could send something similar to 343 (whether they would look at it or not is anyone's guess), but not this-it's a human weapon, and we're going to be in Forerunner space in Halo 4 onwards.
