Description
If you think this looks like a lot of work, you betcha! Especially when you consider that this is version 2. Before I started I roughly knew what I wanted and version 1 [link] started out well. I began with the bigger lines and then filled in the details a bit by mindless doodling.Unfortunately mindless doodling doesn't alwasy agree with me, I work better when I have a clear plan and in the end (after about 8 hours) I just wasn't satisfied with the look. Add to that too much pencil smudges and the next evening I decided to redo the lot.
Tracing all the good bits with blue pencil and adding new stuff with red [link] the second attempt was much more to my liking. My inking hand still doesn't agree with me (a few days later) but we all have to suffer for our art
Now I thought about colouring this with coloured pencil using many coulours (after scanning, cleaning up and printing), but part of me also wanted to see what it looked like using limited colours (as this is my preferred way of working) and the combination blues with a bit of green [link] kept springing to mind. Thus I spent a bit more time in Photoshop and the end result is that much to my liking that I may just forget about the pencils.
I still liked to see what the picture would look like in warm colours, so a red version was quickly made. For comparison I also put the 2 together in a mirrored version. [link]
For the record, the traditional part took me HOURS, the digital part only 15 minutes. [addition] But I've changed the category nonetheless, as my previous decision started a whole discussion I was not prepared for. Personally I don't care whether something is listed as traditional or digital, I see the categories more as a guideline than a rule, so to prevent any future arguments I've changed it. I just want to show the piece and that's that

Seeing as the original is in a high resolution, I am playing with the idea of submitting this piece as a print. I'm gonna read up on the subject this week

Hm, more like it... I don't know about that. My hand is already weary about the fact I'm going to start drawing and inking new pages for my comic

yeah but that's not as difficult, especially if you're working big and with a brush. I find it easier on my hand when I use a brush for a lot of things (plus I love the effect of a brush)
what's your comic gonna be about?

I don't work with a brush, never have. I work with pens trying to make it look like I work with a brush. On top of that I tend to press really hard when I'm not paying attention. I MAKE things difficult, I've got some bad inking habits
The comic is a comedy disguised as a fantasy. I work together with someone and you can see our efforts on our websites [link]
So far we've got the first 3 installments of an 8-volume story. Come monday I want to start updating with volume 4. It's gonna mean lots of deadlines for the next 36 weeks

you should try. It gives a more organic feel to a drawing, but that's just me Your comic looks great just using pens anyway. Hah I press hard with my pens too. It gets really frustrating when after a couple hours of inking my hand will cramp to the point where it won't bend back to the way it should! hah
You're comic seems interesting. I'm gonna try to get to reading it in a couple weeks. Hope you're having great luck with it!

Thanks. Hope you enjoy reading it
I have bought a brush-pen recently. I'm gonna try and practice with that. If I get a feel for that, the step to a real brush might be easier.

when you scan it and clear it out it still will be presentation of your traditional artwork for nothing digital will be added on it, but removed all the scanners "mistakes". your explanation leads to conclusion that digital drawings that are done with tablets are traditional too! when you draw using tablet you draw freehand too, yet you won't put it in traditional category. i understand your anger. this wasn't supposed to be argue (although it now seem you perceive it as one). as i said i like this work. and i really didn't want you to get mad. it's just i don't understand your point of view
anyway do what do like. i won't report your image for it's not my problem (you're right) and it's your choice to live in this delusion so...
wish you luck with all rest of your "traditional" works
i'm out

So now I'm delusional and all of my choises aren't taken seriously with your "traditional works". That's a real mature way of ending a discussion. I'm not angry with you for voicing your disagreement, I'm angry about the tone of your writing. Maybe you are completely right. I never said I was but I chose what felt right at the time and I may still change my mind, I have done with several pieces as I'm starting to learn more about this place and its rules. But the way you try to convince me of your right is becoming very pushy. As if I'm dim and you will and shall make me see things your way. I find it offence and it makes me want to hold on to my decision even more, even if it's a wrong one.
I may need to look closer at my decision making, but you need to look closer at your way of communication.

Oh my god, this looks so lovely. I really like how you made this, with all the sketches in scraps. You thought it through and were critical of your own work. The result above is very psychadylic. ^^
Though if you wanted to I think you could make it more restful with the right colour use. Like if you gave some parts less saturated colours to make them go to the background and others these flashy colours then you could make the details pop out instead of them being lost in the whole.
Great job on the whole!

The blue is more restful, 3 out of 5 colours (not including the black) is on the dark side and only the acid green pops. I've also made a 3rd version (the nice thing about sharp and layered psd files), with greys and purples and I might make a few more to see what effects I can create.
But on the whole I didn't want too much emphasis on specific details. To goal is to get a but lost in the work, seeing new things each time you look
