Description
My second attempt! I actually did this a week ago or something, but i didn't have time to put it up because of lan parties and the recovery, which i am done with now finally -w-So here is my second attempt as said! This time i focused more on contrast and highlight. I like how it turned out, but i know it can been better.. i just need to add the tiny tiny extras.. So if you have any recommendations, feel free to share!
And background! I will try to add something more exciting bg next time, but i don't want it to be more in focus than the main object. So i need some help there as well, but i will try out some ideas i have in mind!

I will try that indeed! I think i also should use more layers when doing this, because i did the whole dragon in one layer xD

actually I would try to stay on 1 layer. here is why: 1 the more layers you have the more memory it will use. 2 you will end up merging allot when you try to smudge one area with another.
I would only use a separate layer if your experimenting and dont want to risk messing up something you dont want to change. if you watch the layer management I use when I did the rose I only worked on another layer when I had areas I didnt want to mess up or wanted to work on things that were not at the same layer like when something was behind something else but ended up merging all before working the final details.

You have a very good point there.. Because i noticed sometimes for example when i did the wings that the smudge tool like dragging the painting a little bit to much, so i often had to redo the movements. But i will practice more using one layer! But ill add layers for backgrounds and such tho. The only thing i don't like is if a layer behind my main one crosses it. And then i have to use my rubber sometimes to remove the edges.. It often leaves some space between the objects which is very annoying. But it rarely happens, so np!
No idea if any of that made sense.. but i blame the time z.z

I think Im following you there. try this:
if the tool is dragging the area your working on too much try letting up on the intensity setting for the tool a bit. it takes some fiddling but its easier to remember the settings affect the pixels like this; if your trying to do blending set the brush so it is lighter or affects it very little. If your making the initial broad shaping strokes the heavier the brush setting the more it will effect the area. there are tons of subtle settings in between that after you master of this method it will make the work so much easier. just remember if your low on memory the size of te brush will create lag much quicker than the intensity of the area being worked but at the same time the heavier the brush is that will generate lag too. there is a fine balance that you'll have to hit to keep your flow efficient but will keep you from sitting and waiting for the lag to pass it just depends on the system and how much it can handle as it will change for each system respectively. just keep practicing. took me along time to nail all the little tricks down but now its my primary method of drawing just because I find it so much more efficient than any other. but that personal preference XD

Yeah that is what i meant! I didn't experiment enough with the settings and that might be why. (You see, in my head i love finding settings that i can use throughout the whole drawing.. Which sometimes keeps me away from experimenting :I) So instead of using only 70% strength next time i will try different ones! And i think i will stick with the small pictures for now until i maybe one day gets a stronger laptop to work on :3
But two more questions.. Should i use a sketch to begin with? Or is it best to let your mind work for you? (Didn't use a sketch on this one, and i noticed that you didn't do that either x3)
And do you have any recommendations when it comes to settings for the brush? One heavy brush and one light? I like having some main options that i can use, and then just change it from there you see!

For me I tend to hang around these settings on my system: 15 to 30 percent for light blending, 40 to 60 percent for mid level shaping/sculpting and shading, 68 to 88 percent for fast sketchy roughs. never anything bigger than 50 to 170 pixels brush size and multiple brush tips of my own making for specialized stuff like hair. I'm running 32Gb system ram on a 680m nvidia 64 bit OS core i7 so these settings may be a bit high for yours
should you use a sketch? depends on if your comfortable with out one. in Thirsty I didn't but I drew it many years ago once in graphite so I was very comfortable without a sketch. if you watch the other videos you'll see I do start with very very rough sketches for images Im experimenting with. sometimes its just fun to sit an let the image tell you what it wants to be with this method others its good to have a structured idea of where you want to go with it. all about what you feel works for what your working on

Well.. My main computer isn't the problem, i have 16gb ram, 770 Nvidia 64 bit and quad i7 myself.. But my legal copy of photoshop is on my school mac.. which.. Well.. Let's just say that ¨Møkk¨ means shit in my language, and that is its nickname xD Hopefully i'll get a stronger working computer in the future, but i'll just have to survive with this for now!
Then i will try with some rough sketches next time! Its very fun to experiment and play around with your mind and imagination, but its also very chaotic. I will also try with color sometime! Yesterday i experienced the glorious moment of realization when i drew a another drawing with only colors and ¨reflection¨ on water. So i am very hyped to play around with more colors! Even tho it was the simplest RGB settings you can imagine xD

From what i see , the bone connecting wing to the body looks like it would be near the dragon's back leg if it had legs xD get what i mean? Make bigger wings! Spread out the wings! :3
