Pencil drawing in a Sketchbook. It took roughly twelve hours --- over the course of three months --- to complete.

I started with the gargoyle, moved to the cemetery, and then onto the rest of the background. I wanted to experiment on a few things with this picture. The first was to attempt a few different textures, such as gritty and smooth stone. I also wanted to see if I could render the cracks in the stone somewhat realistically. The second was to experiment with how light interacted with the water, but I could not get it to my liking. Partially, I blame the lack of a sharp eraser, but mostly I blame my lack of knowledge on the subject and will be studying it in the future. Third, I wanted to persist with my attempt to complete a full scene as opposed to a single object. I failed to draft the scene first and thus ended up with a lot of space that I could have done without. Ultimately, I am not too happy with the result. I could have continued working on the sky, but being reminded of the faulty composition every time that I worked on it had become tiring.
