I happen to have fond memories of playing the first game in that series as a video game-obsessed youngster, and of regarding it as a favorite game of mine among those in the N64 library. Believe me, it was such a thrill to play. And now that you think about it, the Mario games have definitely gone downhill in at least one sense. Those newer RPGs don't even hold a candle to what this game was and how it enriched the Super Mario world with its humor, added personality, and its unique variants of pre-established Mario characters including friendly characters made out of classic enemies.

Nice work Back when they put new spins on familiar designs and made distinguishable friendly characters out of classic enemies. You don't really see that in the newer ones.

Me too. Color Splash came closer than Sticker Star or Paper Jam, but we really need one that brings back the staples that have been gone since Super Paper Mario. Lots of new interesting characters and more of a focus on the new rather than the familiar. But alas, Tanabe (current series producer) is scared to contradict Miyamoto and has flat-out said they currently aren't looking at returning to the old traditions The personality of Huey proves that they still have the talent to do it, they just limit themselves on purpose for no good reason.
