Finally updated my reference for my Octoling design for Octavio on his tumblr blog AskDJOctavio and realized deviantart still has my old prototype ref image so figured I'd post this here too

Name : Octavio Takowasa
Race : Octarian (subclass Octoling)
Title : DJ and Shogun
Gender : Male (male pronouns)
Age : 120+
Birthday : Augest 8th
Height : 5'7" in his octopus form and 10'5" in his humanoid form.
Nickname : Taki (called this to differentiate himself from other multiverse Octavios)

Abilities and skills : Standard octoling abilities alongside high attack & defense, slowed aging and water immunity. (also claims he can fly a bit but yet to be seen)

Weaknesses : If you can distract him with a catchy enough song you’ve basically won any fight against him. His temper is also a weakness of his. Much like one’s normal octopus form he also can’t stand on grates without slipping through. You can also try replacing his wasabi with other food items but only do this if your name is Goggles.

Weapons : No one has really seen Octavio with a standard weapon. Sometimes he carries around an Octobrush with the Kraken ability but hasn’t ever been seen using it, he mainly has it around just to get people to shut up about the manner. He prefers to use machines to do the fighting for him. He also claims to have a sword but no one has seen him use it this century.

Likes : Wasabi, all sorts of music, machines, science, mind control, Cooking, Partying, DJing, ruling his people, the Octarians, his trade partners, the thrill of battle, the Squid Sister’s music and Callie.
Dislikes : Most of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, Most Inklings, Water, being trapped, his people’s suffering, Grizzco, his step mother, daikon root, pickled plums, rice balls, and Sheldon.

Personality : If one thing is true is Octavio loves to party! He often speaks in slang and is full of energy, he is a loudmouth and is angered easily. He refuses to admit he is wrong and will fight aggressively to defend his viewpoints. You need to kiss up to him to get on his good side, though this is easier for some people then others. Once he’s warmed up to you he can often be like an uncle who’ll try his best to cheer you up if you’re feeling down.

History : Born from a botched assassination attempt on the leading shogun at the time, he was mistreated for most of his childhood. Fate would turn around for him however as the actual heir to the throne turned out to be a terrible pick for a leader so he was crowned instead.

He was friends with the inkling ambassador Craig Cuttlefish until the Great Turf War where he was stabbed in the back by him and he and his people were banished underground. Seeing the lowering moral in his people he became a DJ to help lift their spirits, his hypnotic melodies gave his people the will to live and fueled their hate for inkling kind.

His people hit a bit of an energy crisis after the Bluefin Depot Coal Mine shut down fifty years ago, he’s tried making a trade deal with the Salmon King but the nefarious Grizzco keeps undercutting him so it hasn’t been ideal. In a desperate plea for salvation of his people he stole the Great Zapfish, this resulted in Cuttlefish’s cronies taking him down and imprisoning him in a snow globe for two years.

During his absence his approval had gone way down, thankfully with the help of one of Craig’s grandkids he was able to get it at least somewhat back up. Unfortunately her cousin wasn’t too keen on their collab and put the kibosh on that, imprisoning him for another year.
However, eventually he was let free thanks to one of his old assistants- an octoling by the name of Marina Ida, he has sworn to the New Squidbeak Splatoon he’ll behave but who knows if he’s being truthful.
