I was a bit miffed at myself after my last Octavio picture once I realized that I forgot to color the tips of his tentacles purple. I wanted to do some coloring practice, so along with his canon colors I thought it'd be fun to play around with his palette. I kinda want to draw some more of these- maybe I'll do a palette using Splatfest colors next. Tbh I'm surprised that I haven't seen a lot of color swap art of characters based on canon ink colors (aside from a bunch of Pearl and Marina in their Final Fest gear).On the left is "Sanitized" Octavio and on the right is "Cherry Blossom" Octavio. The cherry blossom actually happened on accident- I drew the pose and thought he looked like a little flower so I decided to roll with it.
Alternatively, he's holding his arm in a similar fashion to how Mega Man holds his Mega Buster before firing so I almost went in that direction instead lol

I wonder why they didn't use that idea. Maybe they wanted to distance any involvement Octavio has with Tartar? I always assumed that those clone bosses from the Octo Expansion didn't have scar-marked weak points because Nintendo was trying to tell us that it was all Tartar's doing and Octavio had nothing to do with it.
Whatever the case, thank you for sharing that! That's a really cool design- I might draw it next

Right? Itawasa is so cool, no one seems to know about him since they STILL haven't localized the octo expansion artbook. Poor guy doesn't even have an english name, I personally nickname him Omaggio since not only does it sound like Octavio in the same way Itawasa sounds like Takowasa but that word also means "homage" which is a fitting name for an almost identical clone.
If I were to guess what he was originally planned for I'd guess he was meant to be a harder Octavio boss as part of the tests but it was scrapped due to either being too hard, not being able to work well without a callie replacement or simply not fitting well with the plot.
I'd love to see any fanart you'd draw of him, I'm the only person I know of to have drawn fanart of him (and only on tumblr that is)

Itawasa is a dish made from wasabi, soy sauce kamaboko so it's a pun on his origin XD.
Seems I never posted it, give me a bit while I put it on his blog (and maybe DA too but the art is a bit old now)

I know the first two artbooks have official translations so you're golden there, you can buy em at Barnes and Nobles or on Amazon, the artbooks have important lore only found in interviews or the books themselves.
I know there is the official splatoonus tumblr blog that usually translates what the twitter says.
