It looks to me like Spock was in Pon Farr and made a dive for Jim. Bones jumps in between to stop them from doing something they might regret. One mid-air collision later, Bones finds himself in the middle of a Kirk/Spock sandwich.
Bones: "Spock! Can't you wait until we get to Vulcan? T'Pring is there!"
Spock: "But Jim is here."
Kirk: "Quiet Bones, let's see where this leads!"
Bones: "At least wait until Spock is in his right mind!"
Moments later they all succumb to gravity. Just my take on it anyway! XD
