I mean what is it, is there some unwritten rule that states:In the event that a person does not currently have a relationship, they obviously must want to be in one right now, so you must do everything in your power to try to get in their pants.
Just because I'm single doesn't automatically mean that I want to be in a relationship. Maybe I'm single for a reason, and I don't feel like dealing with a relationship at this time?
Even worse when you become friends with someone and they want to take it somewhere. Hello we can be bffs and keep it platonic thanks.

There's no reason to be so harsh about it unless it's toward someone that's been bothering you repeatedly and/or is saying really inappropriate things.
Unless you're scream it to everyone in the room or sitting there overtly caressing a knife and muttering the words of this stamp, they're not gonna know how you feel until they get to know you at least a little.
Do cut them some slack, don't cut their flesh (figuratively or literally).
