I really love your space-scapes, but you neglected to mention the size of the work and your media (are these digital?).

The color and shading are wonderful and everything has so much depth!

Yeah, sorry...give me a minute... unfortunately I lost the original files on this hard drive due to a virus, but I know I have it somewhere else...I hope. And yeah all my space-scapes are digital done in Photoshop CS+(I currently work with CS3). I really need to do some more but I am working on my Garden of Paradise primer with right now so the space stuff has to kinda take a back seat (unless I figure out how to incorporate the two...). Okay found it...this one was 2100x3600pixels. So generally they are around this size...individual planets are usually done on a 800x800 or 1000x1000pixel canvas. Okay...this comment is far too big.

Naw, your comment isn't too big, besides, I asked a pretty comprehensive question that was impossible to answer with a single sentence.

That's really cool and I have a space-scape in my gallery although it's not my best. I do them on the inside of a poster frame (the ones with an acrylic sheet and the plastic frame. It's reverse-painted so I never really know what it will look like until I'm finished.

This was done with pearl paints so there is a sheen that appears in different angles (not the best thing to photograph). My son was pretty young and the time and helped me stipple the stars onto this one - I think he went a little overboard, but what the heck it was a good father/son project.

That's really cool man. I'll have to try that sometime...maybe when MY son can help me.

Hey, you've got a son too? It's great doing things like that with your kid. Art means so much to them when they're young.

Aw, that's when they're cutest. My son learned to walk by 10 months and after that EVERYTHING had to be put up high and out of reach. I'm sure he'll pick up a lot of art tips from Dad!

My own son is a natural born artist. He picked up things that took me YEARS to learn. Too bad he's not interested.

Hah, and you think you need my advice on anything? You're so much further ahead of me than you think. The only thing is the atmosphere, it shouldn't be visible on the dark side of the planet.

And I'm gonna see if I can find the tutorial on clouds I used. I think it's somewhere on dA.

Yeah I know the atmo shouldn't be visible there, I was having issues with it and kinda gave up on it...lol.

It helps duplicating the planet layer. Then pull the "fill-opacity" down to zero on the duplicated layer, then you turn off all layer effects on the original planet-layer and erase the atmosphere in the duplicated layer. Works for me :3

Yeah...I just screwed up somewhere along the way on the planet file and it was a collab where that part wouldn't show anyway so I just left it...so the title is appropriate i think..
