I like Hougen without the ears, compared to Genba. Hougen resembles the tradtional working great dane, while his brother resembles today's show danes.

"Harlequin" is that the kind of breed of hougen,

(I don't think I'll do the ears that short though.)
do you actually chop the ears off on purpos like with foxies tails?

dakhaios In reply to sparkycom [2007-06-13 20:48:01 +0000 UTC]

Yep Hougen is a Harlequin Great Dane. Danes come in several different colors including: Blue ( my dane thor), Black, Harlequin ( white with black spots), fawn ( brown with a black mask), mantle ( boston), merle ( grey with black spots). Danes do come in other colors but these are the recognized colors by the AKC.

When they cut the ears like that is called cropping. Cropping is a procedure in which the dog is placed under anesthesia, and 1/3 or more of the ear is cut off using a surgical blade. Its usually done when the pup is 7-8 weeks old, so the ears will stand as the pup grows.

sparkycom In reply to dakhaios [2007-06-14 03:56:20 +0000 UTC]

do most danes get croped, like for show?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dakhaios In reply to sparkycom [2007-06-14 22:01:28 +0000 UTC]

Yes, especially for dog shows. Some show as well as non show folk, believe that a dane isn't a dane unless its cropped. Its one of the most controversial subjects in the dog world to date.

However the AKC nor The Great Dane Club of America, does not require that danes entering a show ring to be cropped. Its simply a matter of preference.

I couldn't crop Thor's ears because he was too "old" ( got him at 7 months). Right now I am still debating on cropping my next dane. Not only is the cropping procedure expensive ($200-$400+), but the amount effort ( cleaning, taping the ears, watching for infection, time) to get them to stand is a lot of work. It you want to crop your dog, do A LOT of research.

Same here, I have heard it will be called Empire. Because Christopher Paolini said it started with an E with 5 more letters after it.

Empire makes a good title i think, it makes sense perfectly. And anyway it is obvious what will happen in the book. Eragon is going to head back to Elesmera (Oromis will probably die soon, obviously because of those wards he placed overlapping himself again and again, making him cursed with a strange transformation at times because the Fornsworn broke something within him that would kill him and then when he dies, Glaedr will also die as it says in the books). Eragon will look for the Menoa Tree and find a sword I think that will be sapphire along the blades hilt and the sword also is equipped with magic stored inside it. As for the Vault of Souls, I don't know what will happen but I am guessing we will see another rider and dragon, one in hiding only this one is a human. Arya would also get the last egg which would hatch into a green dragon (male of course as said in Eldest) and the perfect mate to Saphira and then they will fight Galbatorix, he dies but avoid battling Murtagh so as to free him and Thorn from the spells Galbatorix binds them with. He and Thorn become king over the lands. Nasuada probably marries Murtagh. Eragon and Saphira leave the lands but not before he and Roran find the Ra'Zac and own! them (water and light is harmful to them) along with the Ra'Zac's parents.

LegendaryD In reply to sparkycom [2007-05-25 10:41:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah definately, it just makes perfect sense, there is nothing else need to explain it either, the title is perfect.

Wow, i'll be shor to look for your comments in the book when it comes out, now i remimber all the people you were talking about jest now except Oromis, who was he again?

I'll probable read the two book again befor the last one comes out,to have it fresh in my head.Thats what i have to do when reading the harry potter books

LegendaryD In reply to sparkycom [2007-05-25 10:46:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i am already through the harry potter books, waiting for the 7th to come out which will be in July.

Oromis was the elf rider who Eragon saw after killing Durza the shade. He saw Oromis in a dream who told him to go to Elesmera. Oromis is the last Dragon Rider from the previous centuries (because every other rider of his time was killed by the Fornsworn) and Brom's mentor as well as Morzan's. He and Brom were captured but escaped. He of course was tainted by the Fornsworn which must've put a spell on him to kill him (like some poison i reckon, something like that) and so he had to place wards over himself time and time again, which overlap and weaken Oromis's magic to the weakest spells. But unlike Brom, his dragon is still alive which is the gold dragon Glaedr and he also has his blade Naegling (it does not say what the blade's name means in the ancient language but i guess it would mean Divine or something). Oromis is of course dieing and when he does, Glaedr dies with him because of the Riders bond they have with one another.

yes now I remimber his name, sometimes when i read books that has lots of names in it i jest skim the name and can't be bothered to mimerize it,untill the person gets really common then i remimber

O man the last of our favorite books are still aways away, I'v read all the hp books twive so has my brother and mum, Snape is still good of cource he never turned from Dumblebor.

LegendaryD In reply to sparkycom [2007-05-26 03:45:55 +0000 UTC]

Have you read the sixth book then? You would then know how Dumbledore was betrayed.

Still I think the plot is not good. Snape now turning evil, he should've done that a while ago.

sparkycom In reply to LegendaryD [2007-05-26 05:15:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes I have read the 6th book, but I still think Snape is good, coz maby Dumblebor was going to die anyway because of his cursed hand and the dark lord voldemort didn't beleave snape to be that loyal so when he "killed" dumbledor it made all doubt be remove about Snape not being loyal to voldemort, but snape will be a key player to help bring down Voldemort with Harry!

LegendaryD In reply to sparkycom [2007-05-26 09:51:13 +0000 UTC]

No I don't think so, he is there to train Malfoy as an apprentice. So it is obvious what will happen. Harry will find the Horuxicurses (whatever they are called that splits your soul up into tiny bits) and destroy them, destroying Voldemort. Malfoy is likely to die as well. Snape, well yeah he has to die. Harry has lost almost everyone he loves. Only Ron and Hermonie along with others are his only family now.

I bet we see in the last book someone to help harry, his grandfather.

sparkycom In reply to LegendaryD [2007-05-26 19:43:24 +0000 UTC]

Na I don't think Malfoy dies coz hes really good on the inside, I recon Somwere in this last book Malfoy almost dies than Harry saves him and the become, not friends but ok with each other.

(I bet we see in the last book someone to help harry, his grandfather.)

Never thought of harry having a grandfather, very interesting ummm

LegendaryD In reply to sparkycom [2007-06-17 13:51:38 +0000 UTC]

Well what do you mean, of course he'd have a grandfather. But besides the Dursleys. We have seen all of Voldemort's side of the family (yeah i'm so scared of you Voldemort! COME AND GET ME BIATCH!!! Eragon will so kick your ass!), so we should see the rest of Harry's family.
