Description
I'm trying to get a design down for Dorothy, but her dress just ended up being a mish-mash of 20th Century girls clothes.ΒRelated content

Nice picture, though I just read the comments. Does no one know about the books?

It doesn't look like Dorothy Gale. Her hair is too short (and it's orange), and her shoes are the wrong color.

It's just my interpretation of her.Β You're free to have your own vision of her.

Didn't you watch the movie?

My drawing is based on the original John R Neill illustrations from the later books, where Dorothy has short blonde hair and dresses like a fashionable young girl.Β The Silver Slippers are long gone by then.Β See here: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Filβ¦
That's just my Dorothy, though.Β If the Dorothy you see in your head is different than the one John R Neill or I imagined, that's wonderful!Β There's enough room for everyone's visions.

Silver slippers?...No, ruby slippers

It'd be kind of silly of me to give her ruby slippers when I'm basing my designs on the books.

You know very well there are books. Β Otherwise, you wouldn't have left rude comments on my Oz art, whining that I didn't include obscure characters from the books. Β Oh, wait, now I get it. Β You're just a troll. Β

Yeah, the movie was so popular that MGM hired some guy named Frank Blaum to write a series of books based on it.

There have been numerous film adaptations of this character.Β To which are you referring?

Thank you!Β Somehow it's a lot easier to get work done when there's not a three year old climbing all over you.

Sometimes I think it really does work that way, at least in my own work!
This has a very simple look, but in a deliberate and solid way.Β I think it came out well.
