Description
Who is she? Which cartoon is she from? And why am I too stupid to not follow this series long time ago?Actually, no. I am still not a fan of avatar and I haven't planned on watching it either. But I know who she is. Her name is Katara... and that's all I know about her.
So, here's my challenge for you: If you can find a way to persuade me to watch this series, then you'll get a picture request from me... anything related to Avatar or Teen Titans.
This picture is dedicated to my dearest friend, *SamRH . I believe she did request me to draw a picture of Katara long time ago. And here it is.
I hope ya'll like it!

First off, Avatar: The Last Airbender is also an American anime just like Teen Titans (I'm a fan of both).
It's rich in martial arts (the each type of bending is based on a type of martial art. Example: Waterbender is Tai Chi.), naturalism, philosophy, slapstick, romance, action, drama, mythology, and much more.
The show has won many awards including a Humane Society Genesis Award due to one of it's episodes having to do with animal cruelty in circuses.
Trust Me on this you will love it and even though the this version of the series is over a new one is coming out next year. It suppose to be set 70 years into the future of the last series.

I dunno how to convince you too.. But I can tell you why i watch the show ^^
I watch Avatar because the show has an interesteing story based on a lot of real things. The characters has winning personlaities and the design is unique. The combat scenes and bending scenes in general are beautiful and you can relate to some of the characters.
But please give the show a deserved chance. As an Avatard and a Teen Titan lover I beg of you to give it a chance.

Hmm, where to start. Well the animation for one, is incredible. It really flows and the movements are realistic. That's mainly becuase they actually have a martial arts professional do the sequences and the animators put it onto paper. Another good reason, plot. (I won't write spoilers.) In the beginning, all the characters were pretty basic. Aang: spunky little kid, Katara: Sassy teenager, Sokka: Sarcastic older brother, Zuko: Jerk bent on getting Aang. But they've developed so much. We've seen other sides of Aang and Zuko. What's they've gone through, what they care deeply about. Even Sokka has changed before our eyes. He's taken on more responisbility. And as for hentai, hehe, no. You see the characters have crushes and maybe a little kissing, but that's about it. But there's always fanfiction.

It envolves the four elements. Earth, Wind, Water, Fire. Divided into nations Fire as announced war and the Earth, Water, and Wind nations start fighting them. Centered around the bald kid with an arrow on his head he and two water kids and earth kid have an adventure.
Thats all I know like Naruto or something with the Leaf Village in the fire land or something.

Hmm, I don't know if anyone convinced you to watch the show yet (sorry I'm not looking through over 5 pages of coments x.x), but I'll give it a try. I started watching it because, well actually my little brother and sister hyjacked the TV and I had no choice. Now I like the show more then they do . I like it because of Toph and Zuko. I'm going to use Teen Titans to explain the characters because they all match up pretty well in character traits. Some one turned me on to TT through Avatar actually...and the fact that the first episode I saw was The Apprentice...but that's a different story for a different day
. Toph is my favorite. Her powers are pretty much like Tarra's, although her personality more closely resembles Raven. She's a stuborn and rebelious twelve year old girl, the worlds greatest earth bender, who happens to be blind. She played the defenceless little blind girl so well her parents didn't even know she could bend more then flicking a pebble. She carries her own weight and does not like to depend on anybody. Zuko is like Robin in that he is determined to the point of obessessed. He's goal is to capture Aang (the Avatar) and he'll do almost anything to reach that goal. He's an angsty teen fire bender who's mom loved him but his father was never pleased with him. He tries to live up to what his mysteriously missing mother would want from him while doing what he knows his father wants which proves almost impossible. Katara is like Star Fire, she is the bubbly kind caring character who's eternally happy attitude get's on everyone's nerves on occation, especially Toph. Although Katara is not above getting in a fight or an argument. Most often her fights are over dissagreements with Toph although she has a thirst to prove herself as the only fully trained girl water bender. Aang is the most powerful bender in the world as the only person with the ability to bend all four elements, he's personality most closely matches Beast Boy. He is always joking and rarely takes anything seriously. Even though he has the most responsiblity he is still the one always joking around and gooffing off. He has a tendency to mess thing up or blow his cover becuase of his happy-go-luck attitude. Sokka...I don't really like him...he's basicly comic relief (kinda like beast boy)...he doesn't bend anything...yah. So watch the show...or at least reply because I'm bored and have nothing better to do with my life then try to come up with a TT comparison for avatar characters
. Love your pic though, great job for someone who's only seen the show once

Apologies for double-commenting. You're probably tired of reading anything from this picture by this point.
I got off-track with my rant/essay/what-have-you.
What actually drew me to Avatar was the idea of the bending. What kept me in was the spirit world and the animals. I really liked the different ways they blended animals together for the world they created. It's really a nice distraction from a lot of other stuff on TV.

You've probably stopped reading comments on this.
I like how you did Katara in a kind of TT way. Very nicely done and the pose is very good.
I've tried convincing people to watch Avatar. It never works. So I won't even attempt that.
What I can say is this, however.
What I can't understand is why so many of my friends who watch Teen Titans -refuse- to watch Avatar.
I don't understand this for a few reasons.
Besides the colour palette, the animation style's not too different. Both are heavily influenced by Japanese Anime.
Unlike Teen Titans though, Avatar doesn't pretend to be either japanese or american animation. It just is.
While TT is american pretending to be japanese, Avatar is influenced by Oriental cultures and ideas without all the "Hey look I'm American cartoon trying to be Japanese because it's popular. Look! Japanese singers! See? We're Japanese!" It's simply "Hey, I'm a cartoon set in some make-believe world with it's own make-believe rules that was influenced by oriental culture."
I don't quite understand what's not at least somewhat appealing. My husband told me he didn't like Avatar's art because "it's too complex"
It's artwork, as opposed to just slapping shapes and colours onto a screen and calling s*it a tv show *coughcoughATHFcoughcough*
I haven't found anyone who actually watches ATFH who watches Avatar.
The mindsets are too different. One requires a negetive IQ, the other requires thought and imagination.
Avatar has a decent storyline with a lot of potential for expansion. The animation isn't always perfect, but a lot of it is well referenced and makes for nice eyecandy.
So, if you don't want to watch it. No huge loss.
But you're going to miss out on a LOT of things if you just look at something and say "I'm not going to try that even once"
Even I've stomached enough of boondock saints and ATFH (and too much of other CRAP on TV), so I have some -reason- to say "no. I don't let it on my tv screen because I do -not- like it."

I just like to babble. And I figured that by the time 8 pages of comments had gone by someone had convinced you anyway. It was more of an excuse for me to rant and babble about how people can watch ATFH and then call Avatar 'stupid' or rag on it for stupid reasons. I really hate that.

How to convince you... Hm... well it's better than Winx, the pic you based Katara's pose after ^_~
Uhm... lets see... As said, the elemental stuff is based off of different styles of martial arts. My brother-in-law even likes the show now (he won't tell me why, says he don't like to think XD ), it has comedy, drama, action (of course!), and a little bit of Romance. As I scrolled down here, to type, you seemed to take an interest in Toph.
She is awesome, able to take out people easily even though she's blind, she can 'bend' metal (normally they can never ever do that), and she has the why-don't-you-try-to-make-me-care attitude.
Maybe instead I should start with the plot Lol
Aang, the avatar foretold to save the world, has been lost to the world for 100 years. He was frozen in a ice, where Katara, and her brother Sokka find him. They later decide to help him along on his quest for him to master all the elements, and save the world. Of course, in enters the 1st season's bad guy, Zuko. This teenage fire bender is on a quest to capture the avatar, and to restore his honor (he wants to go home... aawwww lol). He relentlessly persues the avatar (while his uncle is making tea, or saying "You should rest! A man needs his rest!), who beats Zuko at every turn.
The second season you get to see more about Zuko, and the REAL villain(s)
I doubt I convinced you, but if you're ever curious, there's episodes on nick.com ^_^

Yes, her name is Katara, from the Southern Water Tribe. Her Father left she and her handsome brother Sokka to fight the dictatorous Fire Nation in the war. Katara finds the Avatar, the world's last hope to bring peace, and he takes her to the northern Water Tribe so they both can learn to Waterbend. Avatar Aang has to learn all 4 elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) before summers end, when a comet will give the Fire Nation the strength to win the war. Along the way they have to fight a handsome banished prince named Zuko, Son of the Fire Lord. He is fighting for his honor, so he can return home. His father banished him because of disrespect and weakness. Zuko's cruel sister Azula will rule over his title to the throne.

Quote by SparkyX: why is Avatar better than the Teen Titans
It is not better than the Titans (I am STILL a Titans fan) but it has the same overwhealming fight scenes some of the Titan episodes had. If you look at the Titans episode "Every Dog has his Day" or "X" y'll know what I mean by detail. The reason I was impressed by the show was some of the effects used in the bending, like how the stances translate to telekinesis. Avatar is a little bit boring in the fact it doesn't have the extreme situations the Titans found themselves in (Episodes sometimes start/end with the team flying on a Bison).
Quote by SparkyX: 'Nickelodeon', that's exactly why I don't want to watch it! *sadface*
I'd agree with that. Though every cartoon station seems to have a range from intelligent to gruesome, Avatar is more along the lines of a humorous/follow the plot line cartoon compared to say Spongebob, which is a lower level of humor.
*wait Blue-Ten convinced you*
Oh, and you have to watch the show to make these comics hilarious:

I will take a stab too! (I'll take you to the dev hospital if u get 2 many stabs, ya knowz? )
But wait, I need to remark on ur pic. I'm not offending you, but the elements are wrong, the water doesn't look that natural. Katara looks a bit oddly proportioned and her hair is not worn with a white ribbon. I'm sorry, i'm just trying to giv u some helpful critisism with ATLA.
Stab description:
Avatar is quite obsessive. I don't overly support any couples, because that's what makes it so addictive. To play with the fan's heads and give them the chance to run to the extreme with their characters. Based on fact, TV was supposed to distract us, relieve us of stress. This is just one of the really good shows I like, and worship.
It's like all other good shows: It's got a hot emo, the pretty girl, the leader and the warrior. Toph is the really original twist: I luvvv her. and, the group is either saving the world or saving a really big part of it. and they twist it unexpectedly, giving it chinese words and all of that. It's a good show and you should try to watch it.
And the thing is, the kids are CONNECTED with the elements. That's as twisted effects as things go. The rest is just fighting action, but this adds a whole new twist to being blown away with the wind, fire, water, or earth.
Of course, once you watch it, u'll either become a zutarian, kataang, or toang or tokka, or yaoi, or lebianity or whatever. Luckily Im only part zutarian, and part ocxzuko, or just GET MY HOMICIDAL OTHER OC TO KILL EVERYBODY IN THE SHOW.
yes, I have created a ointment against total obsessive shipping. *winks cheekily*

Nicely done.
are you still trying to get people to convince you to watch Avatar? Well, if you are still not convinced, I may have a way to make it sound good.
Avatar Has a lot of things that a good cartoon has: A exelent storyline and plot, Characters that you can love or love to hate, Action and aventure, Character development, Actual choreography used to create the scenes, and it always keeps you guessing.
Well, that's all I got. What do you say? Will you give Avatar a try?

BlueSerenity [2007-06-26 15:25:22 +0000 UTC]
Spectacular work. You bring the same beauty and effort to Avatar as you do to TT.
The main reason I've watched Avatar is because it's one of the most well produced shows I've seen in some time (especially considering its a kid's show). The animation and story are excellent. And much like TT, the characters are developed and yet left so wide open, you can do almost anything with them for fan purposes. But most of all, it's one of the few shows that has actually surprised me and taken away predictability. Some times when I thought for sure I knew what was going to happen, it goes the other way or tosses out something I never would've figured.
π: 0 β©: 0
theplanetmary [2007-06-26 04:54:29 +0000 UTC]
Well, I might as well take a stab at it. Nice pick.
I reckon that Avatar is at least worth a shot if for the animation. That was the main reason I got into it. The character design is so in depth and detailed its enthralling, I especially like the facial expressions. The saying of unity in diversity is expressed in the show from the charming and odd mutted species like playtapus-bears and ostrich-horses to episode characters created just and only for a single show exsposure to the main characters that keep reoccuring. The creators and animators seemed to have made it their personal goal to expand the normal 'anime' specturm of characters tapping into a meriot of sexes, ethnics, builds, frames and each character is painstakenly planned out and shaped in their personality to seem as real as a neighbor on your block, hell the animators have arguments and possesive fits amongst themselves over thinks so small as hair color, if they wear fur or what the character said. It was surprising how much effort was put into just characters that would never bee seen again, each with their own personality and back-story and a reason to hate or love them. And each character is individually associated into the Avatar world, each has a place. They aren't just "floating" characters, there are no filler bystandards. Each expresses an importance and conbributes (no matter how little) to the main story. None of them stand around motionless doing nothing, there's always movment, expression, "work" to be done. It reminds me of walking through a city market or county faire where no one is idle. I've never seen an animated show of any kind that went to that much trouble to create a world that expressed reality like that, right down to stressing the differences in dialect, culture, religon and tradition. It was a serious selling point.
I personally couldn't care less about actual "bending", though its an intresting process of which the styles were devolped on different martial arts, which where in turn based on the elements of nature of which in sure that was the whoel original ideas behind the series as a whole. And the plot is intresting if you really pay attention and you can't help but side with the struggle that the main characters are going through. It reminds me of kids that had to suffer and struggle through their own war torn countries, just trying to survive and avoid beingn trapped into a fight they can't win, trying to be as "normal" as possible but still do everything they can to change the world around them. Kind of like alot of amiercan kids and adults are doing now to try and stop the Iraq conflict from escalating any more than it already has. Its easy to relate, easy to wrapped up becuase its about as believeable as the unbelievable can get. It's reality in fictional animation. They're trying to save themselves and their world and trying to keep their own innocence. Its kind of hard to believe that so much weight is being put onto a twelve year old and that he's handling it, dealing with a 'destiny' that is very possible could swallow him. That's also a solid reason why to watch, you honestly can't tell if he'll survive aand finnish the job that he's supposed to. He's twelve for Christ's sake, a kid, easily manipulated and distracted and seems to struggle constantly. There is a very real possiblity that the whole thing will fall out and fail and they'll all end up dead. Which would be intresting in itself.
But my favorite aspect is the Spirit World, I love that idea and design of a massive swamp where the dead and spiritual exist, mingling in the real world. It was just the icing on the cake and made me smile and sit around scribbling wildly to create landscapes and inhabitants for the spirit world. It gets me the spirit world does. I just love that landscape and the spirits within.
Thants my shot at it, hope you give Avatar a try. Much love
the planet mary and all her woes...
