Description
It was only a short walk from the reserve to the shuttle, unfortunately through the slums. Strudel didn’t normally take this route; work didn’t usually even put him on the ground level but today he had received a different assignment, it had gone overlong, and he had missed the nearer shuttle. It would be a while before it made it back down from the upper levels, and he had an appointment to keep. That meant this unfortunate jaunt over cracked sidewalks, past dilapidated buildings, and through the thick smog that would certainly dirty his glistening hide. It wouldn’t be bad though, and he could clean up while he rode the shuttle; for now, what was important was not being late.

Strudel was doing his best to focus only on the path ahead- he didn’t want to risk associating with any of the sort that lived down here. Certainly there were a few lurking around who would take any opportunity to approach a gleaming specimen such as himself, obviously a fellow from the upper levels with funds and influence that could perhaps help the poor out. Be he had no desire to. It wasn’t his fault they couldn’t do better than this.

But then, off to the side Strudel caught a glimpse of something reflective. Amid all this murk, could it really be? He turned to inspect the object- a light post, a functioning one even, or at least somewhat. The dull yellow it let off surely did not complement his hide much, but he ought to take this chance just to check the damage so far. He had time to admire his handsome face, certainly-

Wait. What was that on his nose? A smudge? Dirt? Shifting his limbs from sticks to full dragon form, Strudel passed a few fingers over it. Yes, definitely on him and not just some dirt on the post itself. “Has that been there all day?” He muttered to himself, a horrified sensation rising in his throat. Surely he hadn’t rubbed his nose in any filth while at work, it had to have been before, when he was crowded up against dirty low levelers in the shuttle! Oh this wouldn’t do at all! People had probably been laughing at him behind his back all day long! He couldn’t allow anyone else to catch a glimpse of this frightful mark, right in the most horribly obvious place! His appointment could wait, he needed to take care of this.

Age: 22
Personality: Appearances, appearances, appearances. Strudel is concerned with little else besides how he is perceived by others. This doesn’t only apply to his physical appearance (although he is very highly concerned with that, and spends a lot of time making sure he looks nice), but with social appearances as well- he does his best to look like he belongs among the upper level folk and that he is reliable and highly deserving of his station in life, and quite more than that too. So punctuality, efficiency, and levelheadedness are all things he does his best to appear a master of, and for the most part, he is quite good with all of them.

He does have a particularly large weakness in that he absolutely HATES to be embarrassed or laughed at. He has no conception of the idea “learn to laugh at yourself”. If he ever feels that people are making fun of him, he can fall into complete shutdown until he has solved the problem (which, unfortunately, can lead to him making a much bigger fool of himself). He is also quite conceited and has a soft spot for any sort of mirror; it’s hard for him to walk by without saying hello to his ever-so-handsome face. Confidence, he feels, is key to success, and so he wants to give off every appearance of having it, although his weakness towards embarrassing situations is generally a dead giveaway that he is actually quite lacking.

Most of the time, however, he does keep up the appearance of a proud, suave young man steadily climbing the ladder of success and quite at ease in even the most prestigious of social circles. It’s where he plans to be one day, and so even though there are perhaps other aspects of his character he ought to be focused on improving, it is what he has focused on mastering.

History: Strudel was born into a family of rambunctious folk, happily dwelling in the lower levels of their city. He seemed happy enough messing around with everyone else around him as a child, but he grew into a particularly bitter adolescent, particularly after an adventure with his friends that took them onto the upper levels and gave him a glimpse of the high life. Strudel quite rapidly fell in love with this, and started sneaking up as often as he could, although he quickly found that the behavior he had grown up with was not acceptable with the snooty rich folk he found himself among.

Well. He could change that. In fact, he felt he had little choice but to do so, for as he saw more and more of how he felt life ought to be lived, he grew more and more embarrassed by his family and their behavior. It soon reached a point where he could barely stand them at all, particularly since they began teasing and laughing at him endlessly about his attempts to behave “properly”. Finally the idea occurred to him to simply sever all connections with these people. He managed to find a job in the human reserve, and although it was a low level sort of job (Strudel insists on calling it “customer service”), it paid well enough for him to move out and find a place just on the very lowest of the upper levels of the city. He was about eighteen at the time, and since then he has been working away, saving money where he can but also spending it on the frivolous sorts of items he feels will make him look classy and overall not moving up in any hurry that way. He has been working much more busily at integrating himself into some of the higher circles though, and plans to one day make these connections pay off for him.

Back at home, Strudel and his big dreams are the laughingstock of the family, but fortunately he no longer communicates with them, and the laughter of people “lower than him” has been the only sort he’s ever been able to overcome, and so even if he assumes that they are laughing (and he probably does; he doesn’t think that such people are very hard to predict), it only makes his resolve to rise above them firmer.

~LostEventide has made me really fall in love with MTTs, and so when I saw there was another round up I had to give it a try.

The more I work with this guy the more fun a character he seems too, so it makes me very excited~

Also something that Strudel possibly left out of the story is that this picture *is* actually what it looks like, and he did bump his head on the pole before noticing how shiny and slightly reflective it was because he was so focused on that broken sidewalk and hurrying and that he's awesome and all that. Possibly the smudge turned up on his nose right then, but he naturally assumes the worst.
But yeah, I definitely wouldn't put it past him to always leave those sorts of details out, dohoho.
