Name > Suntide

Nickname(s) > Sun, Tide, Sunny

Tribe > Sea/Rain

Occupation/Affiliation > Student

Mentor/Apprentice (if applicable) > NA
Talon/Order (if applicable) > Emerald Talon

Appearance >

Clearly a hybrid RainWing/SeaWing at first glance, Suntide is usually adorned with bright tropical blues, purples, yellows and oranges in striped and spotted patterns along their scales, although these colours can change. They have SeaWing spines, along with two rounded frills on either side of their head, along their chest, decorating their elbows and ankles, and rounding out their tail. They are taller and slimmer than an average SeaWing, but more thickly built and shorter than an average RainWing. They have a longer tail than most SeaWings, but it is not useful for climbing like a RainWing tail. They have a full set of glowscales, and more SeaWing-esque features (rounded snout, thick neck and tail, webbed talons). Their wings have the starburst patterns that normal SeaWings do, with those patterns also faintly on their frills.

Suntide can change her main body scales, however the colours of their spines, back plating/scales, glowscales, horns and gills stay the same colour no matter what, and cannot be camouflaged or shifted. They have decent control over their scales, however their colour-shifting scales and membranes do shift to show their emotions as normal RainWing scales do. They are not adept enough (nor aloof enough) to prevent this from happening, and often their emotions are splashed across these scales, particularly their wings and frills.

Scars > A scar on their right wing, near their body. Light pink in colour, does not hinder their flight or swimming abilities.

Age > 7
Birthday > 15th October 6025 A.S.

Gender > Questioning
     Pronouns > She/they
Sexuality > Questioning demiromantic

POWERS >

  • Camouflage (two hours sleeping in direct sunlight per day) (minor, weak trait). Can only camouflage main body scales, underbelly, frills and wings. Cannot change their spines, gills, back plates, horns or glowscales.

  • Powerful swimmer/waterbreathing (major, strong trait)

  • Glowscales

Education/Training >

Educated by their mother in basic Aquatic, although they need more interactions with other SeaWing’s to become natively fluent.

Can swim in currents and in moving water (oceans, waves, eddys etc) relatively well, again due to their mother.

They were both educated and personally studied marine life and biology, as well as dragon anatomy in their drawings and at school, being taught by professional teachers, as well as their father, an artist.

Trained in basic rainforest flight and navigation due to their father and the RainWing village they and their sister were taught at. Also trained in basic scale shifting and camouflage abilities, even though they cannot use it offensively.

Knowledge of both Pyrrhia and Pantala (tribes, basic cultures, geography) and knowledge of  the Isle Mezzo, the Alliance and the University.

Summary >

  • Suntide’s parents are Toco (a RainWing) and Cascade (a SeaWing) and they were hatched along the Southern coast of the Rainforest Kingdom.

  • Suntide grew up close with their sister Fran and made friends with Dewscales and slowly discovered the differences in themself (both gender and neurodivergence) while they cultivated their favourite skills (drawing, field studies, marine biology, anatomy).

  • Suntide always loved exploring and travelling to new places, and dreamed of going to the Isle Mezzo, and possibly the rest of Pyrrhia and Pantala.

  • Suntide received a letter of recommendation from the RainWing Queen to attend the University, and immediately accepted. While they’re still sensitive and a bit hurt by Fran wanting to stay in the Rainforest, they’re slowly working towards accepting it and moving forward to start a new journey.

Baby Dragonet >
  • Frangipani and Suntide grew up closely bonded around the edges of the Southern shores of the Rainforest kingdom.

  • Cascade and Toco both believed their children should be brought up as hybrids, and encouraged their different strengths from a very young age, as well as their close bond with one another.

  • Cascade brought them up learning how to swim and catch fish, while Toco brought them up making sure they knew how to navigate rainforest in flight and how to feed themselves the correct fruits.

  •  Suntide spent lots of time around their sister, Frangipani, and they were (and are) each other's best friend when growing up. Despite their differences, both of them wanted to be around one another when learning and playing.

  • When they were dragonets, they met Dewscales, a young NightWing RainWing hybrid, while out along the beach with his parents. Their two families became good friends, and it was Dewscale’s parents who told Cascade and Toco about the Kingdom’s schooling system.

Dragonet >
  • Suntide and Fran grew up with one another along the beaches, learning by themselves, until around the age of four, when their parents decided, after talking to Dewscales’ parents, it was a good idea to move further inland and send them to a proper RainWing school. They still took them swimming in rivers and lakes, and Cascade and Suntide made regular visits to the ocean every week, as Cascade still loved her ocean home, and wanted to share that with Suntide.

  • Suntide started discovering many things about themselves while around other dragonets; how they felt, questioning their gender and where they fit in before, but that questioning slowly grew into a realisation that they were not of the gender they originally thought. Their family was quite supportive, particularly Fran, who helped them through the earlier stages of questioning by doing some research with them (they’re still currently exploring their identity).

  • Suntide loved to explore, and would constantly go off on adventures after school, with or without members of their family, or other Rainforest dragonets (one of these times was unfortunately when the Hallucination Incident occurred). They would constantly ask to travel to new places, getting their wish when the family went off to spend a week near the Bay of a Thousand Scales in the Sea Kingdom, where they spent the week enjoying the surf with Cascade (Fran and Toco aren’t as big on swimming). They would always talk about the stories they heard of Isle Mezzo to Fran, who never had as much interest but always listened.

  • Fran was always the one more likely to be approached by other dragonets (as Suntide was often a bit too odd and fidgety), but other than occasional scuffles and miffs (which Fran always stopped) Suntide always preferred being by themselves. They did welcome company from Dewscales, whom they often partnered with on art and research projects, as they both loved to draw.

  • Suntide and Fran attended the Day City school in the Rainforest, and soon Suntide began to realise their strengths lay more in their SeaWing abilities than their RainWing ones, unlike their sister. They learnt about the ocean, the mangroves and the rainforest rivers in school, as well as life in the other kingdoms, and began to really prosper in their art classes, going on field studies and studying dragon anatomy, often dragging either Dewscales or Fran (or both) with them. Along with help from their father, an artist, they worked on their skills of anatomy and field studies and slowly climbed the ranks of their science and art classes.

  • While Suntide was at school with Fran and Dew in Day City, an opportunity came up to be presented to the RainWing Queen as a potential candidate for a letter of recommendation to attend the prestigious Pyrrhia-Pantala University, to further cultivate and grow young students’ skills. As Suntide was close to turning seven, as well as longing to explore outside Kingdoms and travel to the Isle Mezzo, they scrambled off home to ask their parents about the opportunity.

  • Toco, in the beginning, was concerned for their safety, but both Cascade and Fran talked about the positives and encouraged the idea until eventually he agreed to it, only stating (with Cascade agreeing) that Suntide had to be seven by the time the recommendation was written, or they’d have to wait until next year. As this was the case, Suntide (along with the help of an exasperated Dewscales) excitedly began to compile and arrange all of their best personal and school art, biology, anatomy and field work into a miniature portfolio, to hopefully be reviewed by teachers and thus be passed up to the RainWing Queen.

  • Suntide waited excitedly (and with trepidation) along with Fran, Cascade and Toco for news of a letter of recommendation, and finally received confirmation just after their birthday, while they were working on an art project with Dew. Both were ecstatic about the news, and although Dew was more interested in staying closer to home for now, immediately promised to go out to visit Suntide during the school breaks to have some more adventures and drawing sessions. Dewscales was truly happy for Sun, and Suntide promised to write to them all every week.

PARENTS >
     >> Father > Toco and Suntide always got along in a good way, with Toco providing them with drawing lessons to help with school and their studies of biology, though they’re not as close with Toco as with Cascade.
     >> Mother > They get along great with their mother, as she was the one who taught them about the ocean and brought on their love for Marine life, biology studies, and anatomy. Their mother was also the one to encourage them to go out and explore.

SIBLINGS > Sister > Fran and Sun were always best friends, as well as close siblings. Their personalities bounced off one another in a good way, and they were always there for one another. They have slowly grown apart in a natural, beautiful way, and encourage each other to pursue their dreams. Fran was the one to convince Suntide to go to the Isle Mezzo.

(Describe any others your OC is connected with here, including friends, enemies, etc.)

Dewscales > Friend > Although Suntide didn’t get along with a few dragonets, Dewscales was always more patient with them, like Fran, and they grew a bond between them. Though not as close with Dew as with Fran, Suntide still appreciates and misses his shyness and wonder.
