The scene playing out in my head was:

Rochelle is a tough woman and can easily handle herself. She says rude and mean things and is very bold with her actions and words. However, this is all a front put up due to survival. In order to survive she has to be tough and on the inside, it's killing her.

Zoey, in a sense, is the same way. She puts up a tough front, but in a different manner. Rather than saying rude things, she acts like a tough girl that can handle herself, whilst making light of the situation at hand. She chooses to be light about things since every day is a constant struggle for their lives.

In this scene, Rochelle has gone off from everyone else to allow herself to put her walls down and really reflect on life as it is now. Zoey accidentally walks in and is at first hesitant and offers to leave, but Rochelle offers her to sit down instead. Then Rochelle opens up to Zoey and begins to explain that she's scared to death and worries about her family and friends and expresses how much she misses them. Zoey then responds with the same sort of concerns but also tries to comfort the woman and make positive of the situation by expressing that the current survivors are like their family and friends now.
