This is my father's service pistol from when he was in the Air Force. Don't ask me how he got to hold onto it, because I don't know. Since I'm around the house more often these days, I'll be putting up more shots like this later on.

A little history about the 1911. The Colt Semi-Automatic Model 1911, Caliber .45, is the second longest lasting weapon used by the United States military, the first being "Ma Deuce," the M2 .50 caliber. The standard side arm for all branches of the military until the mid-1980's, it is regarded as one of the finest pistols ever designed. The Marine Expeditionary Force in fact readopted a custom version of the 1911 when the rest of the military made the switch the M9 Beretta 9mm pistol, they preferred the larger .45 caliber's stopping power over the 9mm cartridge of the M9. The LAPD SWAT also uses a modified version of the 1911 as their standard sidearm. To this day, the 1911 is still one of the most popular and widely used pistols in the world.
