But they say love is war,
and such casualties

the price of my being.
Should I stop?
Still the compassion?
Mend this leak in my heart?

If I am love
Could I?
Can I separate me
from myself?
Is there a crack somewhere
I could bend and break
split my soul
straight down the middle.
Could I end myself
and continue living?
Or would I shrivel
and shrink
and crumble to dust.
Once more the nothing I was
before love.
Or perhaps I'm already broken,
my other pieces
shattered
skattered
as souls
I stumble upon
and embrace,
finding myself
in these brief moments,
finally whole again.
When I look in your eyes
and see myself
through you.
my being, fulfilled
my life, my love,
one and the same,
the meaning of my existence,
finally returned to me.
Perhaps this is not an addiction,
rather a need to reform my true self,
to be yours
to once more be my own.
