"So ~speakyourmind [link] took this picture, and I had a go at editing it. Corrected the exposure and color temperature, boosted the contrast and saturation, did some selective dodging/burning, sharpening, cloning, blurring, and added the vignette.
I also extended the right side of the picture a bit, to put her face a little more off-center (originally, it was really close to the center, but not quite). I felt like it should either be dead-center, or more obviously off. I also messed with the shape of her left arm (our right), so that it was more symmetrical with the right arm.
Here's the original: [link]
And a side-by-side comparison: [link]
I was glad to have such a fun picture to start out with - The lovely ~speakyourmind did a great job!
How'd I do? "

Nice shot! Can you tell me how did you add the vignette? I'm using PSE4 and PS7. Thanks

I had no idea what ISO is and I don't really know how to change it.
I also didn't consciously shoot it that close for the shadow. I shot it that close because I have a very small amount of open wall space and I like the camera close to me. zooming bothers me when I'm trying to stare into the camera
I love the thoughts Zachary and I hope you continue to comment!

~Speakyourmind asked me in a note what editing program I used. It's all about Adobe Photoshop. I was able to get the latest version, CS3. Normally, it's a $969.99, but I was able to get it for $294 from here: [link] Gotta love a student discount! I realize nearly three hundred dollars is still quite a bit, but you will absolutely not find a better deal anywhere. You'd love it!
Photoshop is the industry standard, though. It's probably the most powerful piece of software you could own, which means it will take some serious practice to get good at. But it's worth it!
While editing this, I thought of a few other things I thought I'd say about your photo, if you don't mind: First, did you shoot at ISO 800 for a reason? I was just wondering what you know about ISO, and whether or not that was a conscious decision. The higher the ISO, the more noisy your pictures will come out, so it would be best to keep it as low as possible (when the situation permits). Start with the ISO low, and gradually nudge it up when the area is not well-lit or you are trying to battle camera-shake.
I also don't know if you consciously decided to shoot so close to the wall behind you or not, or if you liked your shadow sort of outlining you against the wall as a result. The more I worked on it, the more I like the effect - it does look kind of cool here. However, you might want to move away from the wall in the future.
Just a thought or two ...If you don't wanna hear 'em, I apologize and carry on!

Sometimes it all depends on your editing program and how well you learn to use it...
