Description
A muted night, the scent of April rain
still caught in the air.
Light shimmers between
twisted silhouettes
who reach,
longing to brush
the pale cheek of the moon,
her face half-turned in the dusk.
A chill rushes up
wrapping me in your embrace
But a moment
and you're gone
again.
Not to say your touch
holds the coolness of the breeze.
Rather my heart's response
the same
whether pressing air or flesh
Heart quickening
Breath jolted
Thoughts scattering
All I am
waits
for you.
My phantom lover.
Early buds sway to your rhythm.
The moon turns toward the rustling grass,
joining in my search
But the leaves halt
the rain rests
gathered in the clouds,
who pause
listening
Soundless,
the night lies still once more
And to the only motion
left in the void above,
fire releasing all its self to gravity,
I whisper your name
and loose my wish to the falling flame
my phantom lover.
