Description
A bird from The Man in the Moone (1638) by Francis Godwin (AKA The Strange Voyage and Adventures of Domingo Gonsales, to the World in the Moon). Gansas migrate between the Moon and Earth, and are the way the main character gets to the Moon.
"about the Mouth of our River, I found Store of a kind of wild Swans feeding upon Prey, both of Fish and Birds, and which is more strange, having one Claw like an Eagle, and the other like a Swan."
EDIT to clarify: The main character gets to the Moon by rigging up a machine that gets pulled by a herd of them.

It doesn't give a size in the book, but I made it the normal height of a swan - around 4 feet tall and 5 feet long. It would have a wingspan of about 7 feet (how that would help it fly through space, I have no idea).

Interesting... you said the main character gets to the Moon on one of these? A bit small for that...

Oh, I should clarify that. He rigs up a machine that gets pulled by a herd of them.
