Description A large monster from Le Docteur Oméga (1906) by Arnould Galopin.

Rough translation:

"a terrible roar sounds a few steps from us"

"Suddenly, between the glaciers stood around us with their glittering peaks, a beast appeared, repulsive, horrible, fantastic hideousness.

She could measure twenty feet at the shoulders and large flat and straight tusks gleamed like two steel blades.

The body of this monster reminded a little of its structure than the behemoth trigonocephalus, called by some paleontologists to Elephas primigenius.

And indeed, the terrible enemy who showed us had a little shape of an elephant, but his body was much less elongated than the pachyderm, and legs, instead of being massive and straight, were gnarled and slightly arched.

Just imagine a strange beast, apocalyptic, taking at once the lion, the elephant and tapir, and you will have an idea about the strange animal whose only view we froze the blood in the veins.

His eyes, the color of jade, had the disquieting fixity of those boa constrictor when he watches a prey."

"After pushing a new, more formidable than the first yelling, the monster looked at length, sniffed the air, waving his tail and crouched how tigers stirring the sides ... ready to jump."
