Description
The shaggy megacore (Greek word, “megálos”, and French word, “cor”, meaning “large horn”) is a large, woolly, migratory duopod of the suborder Leimocornia (“neck horn”), and is a larger close relative to the batracervimorphs (or “frog deer”). Occupying a niche similar to mammoths of the past, it inhabits the seasonal tundras of Kisinei and Hojeg, where it is the largest specimen of these regions.Adult males generally reach heights between 3.9 to 3.6 meters (12.7-11.9 ft) at the thighs, whereas females measure 3.7 to 3.4 meters (12.4-11.1 ft) high. The megacore’s coat is highly adaptable to its cold environment, measuring 50 cm (19.6 in.) in length, and being made up of two layers of fur, which are short woolly underfur and long waterproof guard hairs. It’s throat sac, a main characteristic found in many frog deer, is less colorful and entirely covered in its fur, but is still used for courtship purposes and communication.
Like batracervimorphs, the shaggy megacore is social and travels in large nomadic family groups led by a dominant patriarch. But whereas batracervimorphs are mostly browsers, megacores spend the summer months grazing on grass whilst occasionally feeding on plants. Courtship season usually occurs during the autumn months as they migrate north.
