Description
The vachog (portmanteau for “vacuum” and “hog”) is a sturdy pig-like duopod that resides in variable habitats of Kesinei and Hojeg, ranging from taigas, grassy areas, and shrublands.
Its body measures up to 45-51 cm (17-20 in.) in length and 46 cm (18 in.) in height.
The vachog lives solitarily, except when accompanied by its young. While its sense of smell from its V-shaped nostrils are well-developed, the eyesight from its tiny eyes are poor, although they are still bioluminescent enough to be used as illumination.
Depending on the habitat, the vachog may be active either during the day or night. When feeding during the day, it tends to prefer wooded areas since the vachog is easy prey for predators from open areas. That said, foraging usually occurs during the evening.
Omnivorous, the diet of the vachog consists of low vegetation including roots, tubers, and fallen fruit, while also consuming carrion and small insectoid-like creatures. It has a bizarre, yet efficient way of feeding; it inserts its lamprey-esque mouth on a surface where a food item (be it a root or a tuber) is located before vacuuming it into its mouth. When sucking, the noises it makes consists of loud chuffings and snorts.
