Eulogy for a Cookie:

Flour, sugar, eggs, butter; there are so many things that make up a cookie. You mix all the dough up, adding effort, time and love to the process. Then the chocolate. The sweet chocolate chips of friendship. Scooping out little rounded spheres of the yummy cookie dough, each unique and sweet in it's own way. Before you know it, the timer goes off, and a delicious batch of cookies are born into the world.
This cookie was born in the same way, delicious, soft and with a gooey chocolate center. It had dreams of being dunked in milk. Or maybe perhaps in coffee. It was stored away and nestled in the cookie jar as it anticipated who would pick it up and eat it.
That was sadly, not to be.
It may be that the cookie was picked up, plated and set out to be eaten. Maybe the plate was put away in the refrigerator for a later time. One cannot say exactly what happened. We can only guess that the plate was jostled, and the cookie lost. Wedged between the shelves of that cold refrigerated tundra.
Many months passed in that cold, The cookie doing all it could. Surviving off of scraps of sandwiches and leftover goodies. Finally to be discovered during a cleaning.
Oh, poor sweet cookie. So brave. A fighter. You will be missed, your dreams never realized.
You are the uneaten one. The last of your batch.
Now as we scatter your crumbs in reverence, we honor you.
May you rest in sweet pieces.
