Biography
Emerald was born not long after the War of SandWing Succession by a SeaWing royal guard, Surf, and a SandWing soldier, Copperhead, who both served under Blister's faction. Unfortunately, Copperhead went missing during an assualt against an IceWing fortress, leaving Surf to raise their dragonet with help from her historian father, Flounder. Because Emerald was born with gills, Surf was able to raise her in the ocean waters of the Kingdom of the Sea. Though she initially had trouble bonding with other SeaWing dragonets, Emerald was never bothered by this as she would escape to her favorite place in the Kingdom, her grandfather's study. There she spent most of her afternoons reading scrolls on Pyrrhia history, legends, and tribal cultures and about the different places in Pyrrhia she's never seen before. Eventually, on her 5th hatching day, she is permitted by Surf and Flounder to leave the Kingdom and go explore the rest of Pyrrhia. Her explorations often lead to many adventures such as exploring secret crystal caverns or encountering hungry stone trolls. Some of the notable places she visits include the Scorpion Den, Jade Mountain, and the Ice Kingdom, where she meets the noble IceWing dragonet, Snowstorm.
Personality
Despite what she has been through, Emerald remains a calm, mature, and understanding dragon. She has a boundless sense of curiosity, having read about numerous places and creatures she has never seen. Though she is not easily naïve and is often serious and down-to-earth when she has to be. She is also notably clever and observant, being able to discern a situation and think of ways to get herself out of trouble.
Because she spent most of her early years in her grandfather's library, Emerald developed a key interest in reading, especially scrolls on Pyrrhia history or legends. Eventually, her love for history and knowledge leads her to become a traveling chronicler herself and develop biographical writing and observation skills. Also, though she grew up in the sea, Emerald longed to explore the lands of Pyrrhia and even states how she prefers living on land than in the sea. She also has a liking for bright, sunny locations, an instinctive trait from her SandWing genes.
Other positive traits of her personality include being firm, confident, adaptable, and somewhat daring. Though she can get emotionally driven whenever she’s extremely angry or sad which often leads to miscommunication problems. She can also be rather bossy when in roles of leadership.
Abilities
Being SeaWing dominant, Emerald possesses most abilities pertaining to the species. She has gills that allow her to breathe underwater and she is an excellent swimmer with the help of her webbed talons and long, thick tail. She can also use her tail as a powerful weapon or for creating waves. Emerald is also able to light up her bioluminescent scales. Through this, she is able to converse in Aquatic and shows to be very fluent in the underwater language. She also lacks a fire breath.
Unlike most SeaWings, Emerald is able to withstand near extreme warm temperatures, both in the water and on land. Instead of night vision, she has terrific hearing capabilities, very similar to her SandWing genes.
Her most notable feature as a hybrid is the stinger on her tail which she inherited from her SandWing father. However, Emerald’s stinger has no venom in it, so she rarely uses it unless for self-defense.
Relationships
- Surf: Emerald has a very close relationship with her biological mother. Surf has been caring for and loving Emerald ever since she was a hatchling. As a former royal guard, she even took the necessities to teach Emerald all she knew about survival and combat tactics. Surf was very sad when Emerald had to leave, but she knew deep down that her daughter was ready and capable of handling the world outside the Kingdom of the Sea.
- Flounder: Emerald is also close to her grandfather in most ways. She shares his interests in history and is grateful that he allows her into his study to read books. Though she can sometimes get annoyed by his crankiness and nagging over house rules.
- Snowstorm: At first, Emerald was rather cautious around the IceWing, mainly due to the things her mother has said regarding the Tribe. However, she was soon won over by the gentle spirit and considerate nature that he extends toward his younger brother Snowdrop. Eventually, during Emerald’s time staying in the Ice Kingdom, the two begin spending time together and develop a mutual friendship which later evolves into a deep love for one another. However, feeling he cannot be with Emerald because of both his status and her being a hybrid outsider, Storm tries to push her away in hopes of avoiding breaking her heart. Ironically, Emerald’s heart does break whenever Storm attempts to push her away, but it doesn’t stop her from continually trying to persuade him otherwise.
- Snowdrop: Snowstorm’s younger brother who rescued Emerald when she was suffering from hypothermia upon first arriving into the Ice Kingdom. Because of this, Emerald quickly came to trust the little IceWing and they became fast friends.
