This is a great page, man. I wonder who that could be in the last panel...

AWESOME! And JS is returning too! I agree with Kostmeyer, you're pages really seem to pull everything together nicely, making it seem more coherent and like a big story instead of individual pieces - more like a cross-over event.

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-08-19 15:01:12 +0000 UTC]

Aww, pash. I just play with what I'm dealt, that's all. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-08-19 17:53:02 +0000 UTC]

Dude, think of it this way. Y'know when there's a massive cross-over event, say, off the top of my head, Secret Invasion. Although stuff crops up all over the place, and there's one main series that ties everything together.

Not to take anything away from the other series (or artists, in this case), but sometimes they kinda go off track, and you begin to wonder where the plots headed, even though what you're reading is still enjoyable, you begin to think, "ok, but when is it going to start coming back round to point A again?"

Your pages tie everything together nicely; think about Kostmeyer's pages at the start of every chapter - he sets it up, and you help keep the other artists on track.

You're more than welcome - I simply LOVE your pages. They are AMAZING. Though, I must ask; the most recent one - I couldn't tell if Lot actually saw V or not?...... And if he did, and just left him to it, I look forward to seeing why.......

(Also, how much stronger/faster is Virtus with the symbiotes?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-08-24 15:35:32 +0000 UTC]

Shucks, I've only just gotten used to my new way of progress, that's all. XD

Basically, Lot is a good guy on the wrong side, who feels that the villains have crossed the line by using Vigil for their own plans. So now he's reaching out to the heroes in secret, and V is the only one close. ^^

(I'd like to think that he's three times wronger stronger and faster with them.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-08-24 22:12:44 +0000 UTC]

Still, LOVE IT. I know V is all about the stealth atm, but I really look forward to seeing him tear thru some of Axiom's goons and thoroughly kicking some arse. I was listening to a song (Hell Above Water by Curve, Google it, tis awesome) earlier, and started thinking about how cool it'd be to see V just going ballistic - a bit like this:

[link]

Ah, thinking about it, I do remember seeing Lot's pages, and him saying that.... I really hope that Vigil doesn't end up the way that you drew her - man, Vigil's just about the most powerful woman in the war. The villains having her as their personal toy would completely blow goats. Hope someone saves her soon.....

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-08-25 13:55:20 +0000 UTC]

Sadly, I don't think there will be much fighting in this chapter. Maybe next, but we'll see.

That whole sequence was one of many inspirations to create Virtus in the first place. ^^

Agreed. That's why V has so conflicting feelings about her... She's beautiful as a wildflower, but also as powerful as lightning. It terrifies him... And attracts him as well. But he respects her too much to act on those feelings. XD

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-08-25 20:37:43 +0000 UTC]

Ah, fair douse. It does seem like the main focus of this chapter is to see what the villains are getting up to, and who their new recruits are.

Really? In the same way that I'm Babbitman, I came up with the name of "The Blur" for - my best friend. The initial idea was for Babbitman (the character, not me) to see a red blur, and the speedster to just zip out of nowhere and say "I'm The Blur!" And Babbs being all like, "Don't you mean "The Flash"?", to which The Blur would get all defensive and be like, "I don't FLASH! I BLUR! See?! *zips everywhere* THE BLUR!!!" I like the idea of seeing Virtus tearing it up that way by the end of SW.

......... That sounds so much like the whole "Jean/Scott" thing..... Minus the lazers.... You have such an awesome character, and it's brilliant to know that you've got so many different sides to him.

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-08-27 23:27:47 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-09-01 18:49:53 +0000 UTC]

I can't remember - Kitty said something along the lines of "How can you be a first class bitch", and Emma replied with that. My favourite moment has to be Logan coming across Scott and Emma in bed. "So, what part of the grieving process is this?" Scott blasts Wolvie out of the building, runs down to the lawn. Wolvie says something, followed by "Snikt". Cyclops comes back with, "Hey Logan. That healing factor's gunna come in handy right about now." Beast runs to the window next to Emma and asks what's going on. Emma tells him how they're fighting over Jean, followed with "Great. £1000 nose job and I still rate below a corpse."

Emma's had plastic surgery?

But damn, I agree. Joss Whedon's writing is great.

Never been a fan of Emma though, always been to much of a "might is right" bitch for my taste.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-09-01 20:26:06 +0000 UTC]

I love her BECAUSE of that. During Whedon's run, he just played on her being a complete and utter BITCH. And the arguments between Emma and Kitty were classic, as were the exchanges between Emma and Scott - they seemed more like a real couple, as opposed to just "Leader + Blonde".

(Yeah, she had plastic surgery on her nose. Not sure if that was mentioned during Whedon's run, but I definitely - Oh, wait. I think it was after Kitty smashed her head in to a wall.)

What did you think of the whole "secondary mutation" thing? I didn't care for it much when it first happened, but after Whedon's run, she seemed to become a lot more interesting as a character to me - she stopped being some third rate villainess turned goodie, and started acting more like a "shade of grey".

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-09-02 23:52:19 +0000 UTC]

The whole living diamond thing was a bit of a thematic push, I say. But then again, I understand that it might be hard putting a character in a direction that pleases all.

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-09-04 18:01:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah; I'm pretty sure it was Grant Morrison's run that she developed that power, and I must say, it kind've felt like he was just clutching at straws a tiny bit.

Sometimes it feels like, with his writing, he thinks, "Right, what can I do that hasn't been done yet?" Irregardless of how much sense or reason it has to fans.

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-09-06 00:32:39 +0000 UTC]

I'm not to familliar with any DC or Marvel writer's work (Except for Geoff Johns) so I can't make my judgement on that. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-09-06 16:07:22 +0000 UTC]

Johns is doing a BRILLIANT job on GL atm, with Darkest Night. Flash is a bit interesting, though I wish they had/hadn't bought back Barry Allen..... He was also very good writing 52.

Grant Morrison is either very good or utter bollocks. He's one of these writers where there's no in between.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Speedslide In reply to Babbitman [2009-09-09 17:50:41 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. But then again, I can't really bring myself to actually disliking anything from Marvel and DC. But Johns is definately a fav. And Flash: Rebirth is an entertaining read, at least to me. Sure, the main focus is on Barry, but the other speedsters get sufficient air time. And we don't know how the series will end yet, so I'll hold off any critique until then. XD

I'd say that Morrison's good once I read a whole story from beginning to end. I actually enjoyed Final Crisis, and I don't care what anyone else has to say about it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Babbitman In reply to Speedslide [2009-09-11 18:42:44 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough.

Morrison doesn't seem to have a middle ground, a bit like director Bryan Singer - he either does damn amazing or "damn, what the Hell is THAT?!" 52 was just shear brilliance, even if he did have Johns and the others watching over him. I'd recommend reading "Animal Man: Deus Ex Machina". It really is pure amazing in action.
