Description
DOWNLOAD in order to get somewhat visible letters. XDThis is the sheet to go to for everything Virtus, with more info than you would ever want to know. This is also the first in-continuity Virtus profile made after the release of the official Virtus origin comic.
I'll definately submit this to AFL 3 in Spring 2009, because it's the most extensive thing I've done, with vital details and miscellanea.
Special thanks to and whose artwork I used without permission, and I hope that it's okay. If not, I'll delete it immediately.
(And I swear that I'll do something that does not promote my own work soon! XD)

I really like this Virtus guy, for some reason I find my self coming back to him over and over again. It must be the suit.
However but it may just be me with my eyes, but it was accually very tough to read this profile without it straining my eyes. I think it was the background with the white writing over it. It's only a minor complain however.

This is a pretty old profile. I have a few that is a bit easier to read through in the more recent submissions of the gallery. I'm glad to see that he's peaked your interest though. ^^

Oh yeah. It's really great to see people having a go at making their own super heroes. There are too many poeple making their own batman viallins
Of course that's not the only reason why I like this guy. His costume and design outside the costume is pretty cool and original too.

Yeah, that's where the lines between original characters and fancharacters. I admit that Virtus started out as a Sonic fancharacter, but as soon as I learned to draw for real, he was easy to port into a superhero setting. After all, I want to be able to work in comics someday, and Virtus is high up on my priority list to self-publish. ^^
Original and original... He's basically just an author avatar of myself. XD

I wanna work on comics too! Or animation.
Hehe, I guessed.

I have plans for animation too. Heck, I've even secured a spot in my 26-world multiverse for the occasion if I ever get a chance to try my characters out in some other media. Foresight, you know.

Good to see I am not the only weirdo in the world that creates superheroes based on himself. Great job on the profile, BTW. Just the kind of detail I think everyone should put in to their original characters. B)

Yeah, I'm really taking a risk with he author avatar approach, but you know what they say, "Write who you know". It helps a little that all of his supporting cast is based on friends and family as well. ^^
This profile is old though, I just uploaded a simpler one. ^^

And this profile is horribly outdated, there is a reason why I didn't let the AF moderators take it into the AF folder. XD But if you have questions about what's up to date, I'd be more than happy to answer them.
And you really think so? Cool!

then make a new one for AF condense some aspects and broaden others, use other sheets as an example to be succienct and yea a speed based super is a step away from the buff or energy based ones so its a welcome change.

I would if I had the time, but sadly I don't. Angel Falls will just have to wait while I get some other projects out of the way.
Speed and strenght. But yeah, it's refreshing with a character that's a bit more grounded than the flying powerhouses.

I guess I'll ask here so as not to clutter the HA forums with my questions:
What made V put on the mask and go vigilante?
What's his motivation aside from "doing the right thing"?
What does he think "the right thing" is exactly?
I'd probably know the answers if I could read Swedish, but since I can't...

Didn't know you could be found here. Expect a watch soon. ^^
1 - There are several psychological reasons for V to put it on. I'll try to deconstruct it into the essentials.
- Tradition. V donned the colourful outfit and the alias, just like many others had before him when they had been given amazing powers.
- His innate shyness. He concluded that he would look stupid jumping around in jeans and t-shirt.
- Freedom. With all the paperwork a regular crimefighter would have to through for one single day's work, it's understandable that he didn't want to ruin things with a public identity.
- Peace of mind. He doesn't have people showing microphones up his nose everyday, thanks to the mask.
2 - I'm sorry if this sounds unreal, but I'm a very idealistic person. It's also a karma question. Do good things, and good things happen to you. And even if it doesn't, V gets a warm fuzzy feeling from seeing gratitude in the eyes of those he helps. And also, he refuses to give up, mostly due to his mother raising him. She is the only one who knows about his double life, and supports all of her sons in their exploits. Subconsciously, V wants to prove to himself that he can be a hero.
3 - All life is sacred. V is a strong supporter of individual rights and resents any kind of opression, such as racism/speciesism, totalitarianism, elitism, etc. He's the kind of guy who'd rather than slap a fly for being irritating, would catch it in his palm, open a window and let it out.

Maybe I wasn't specific enough.
He's 18, right? Where are his parents?
Does he live on his own?
Did he grow up in a wholesome family environment?
Did anything traumatic throw him into the superhero fray post-getting powers?

Both are alive and well. Not married. Have lived together ever since Seb was born. Michael Johnsson, the father, is as much of an asshole you can be without doing anything illegal. He doesn't hurt his children other than nagging on how they do things, but he never encourages them when they do something right either, taking credit for small things such as setting as the table. "Yes, set the table before Inger comes home, so it is done when she gets there and there is plates on the table." Not to mention being damn lazy. Lots of time for simple instructions, insulting their intelligence. All talker, no doer. So Inger Sanders has essentially raised him and this three younger brothers on her own, always encouraging their dreams.
No, he lives with his parents and three younger brothers.
He lost his patience with his personal bully and knocked him on the head. He was then approached by Ferentz, a concentration camp survivor, who confronted him about letting hate and personal spite rule his judgement, and try to work with respect to his fellow man instead. It didn't really sink in until Ferentz warned him that revenge against the world was the fuel for such men as Hitler, Hussein and others. V understandably doesn't want to be compared to such bigots, and as such tries to be a perfect hero perhaps a bit too much.

The only thing I can say is the images need to be larger and more prominent. While the information is important, the layout should also be an attention-getter, and that means putting the visual of the character first and foremost.
I have a collection of old DC "Who's Who" books; on each page, one side features a full-page splash image of the character, and a detailed written bio, with smaller pics of the character in context, on the other side of the page.
On that note, it's a nicely-designed character. Admittedly, I didn't read it, but I will later.

Well, don't abandon it. Make a better one later, perhaps one that isn't so in-depth. I've heard from many comic pros that it's not a good idea to over-develop a character...he/she needs room to grow.

But I wouldn't say professional... If you look close enough below the "Religious Beliefs" section.
But I'm glad that you like it. I'll hope you and other artists will find this profile coming in handy this February, if Leigh's schemes goes as planned...

I'm a big fan of the seasonal outfits. It just plain makes sense, as long as it's done right. For example, the Fowl's winter outfit [link] [link] is just a longer jacket and gloves with a heavier cloak. But as soon as you give him, like, flamethrowers so he can fight cold-based villains or whatever, it stops being cool and starts being an action figure. I think you've nailed the "cool" end of it with Virt's costumes.

Speedslide In reply to dan-sch [2008-10-17 15:13:42 +0000 UTC]
I second that motion.
I've always felt that some outfits needs variations in order to be plausible. Well, except for Supes, since he obviously is nigh-immune to cold and heat anyway...
That goes out to those tights-wearing boys Spidey and Bats too. Spidey could probably do with a spider-coat for winter stake-outs (Hey, it worked for Scarlet Spider, didn't it?), while Bats oughta think twice about going on a mission to Hawaii without some tailor made Bat-speedos. (Okay, that last one was a joke.)
I mean, a costume is something iconic for the superheroes. Sometimes, it can be an outfit that isn't made to last forever, but always under modification, like Iron Man's armour. [link]
And sometimes, the whole "new look" theme is just used to draw public attention among fans.
I personally like your choice of giving Fowl's design a lack of tights from the start, which allows some air running through and circulating.
I think I also implented this to give a sense of time to Virt's world, without suffering the consequences of having the character age in real-time.
But I guess there's some physics put into it. Heck, even a speedster needs to prespire. And this isn't some high-tech/alien/magic fabric, it's a costume designed by Mr. Sanders and put together by his mother. And there's isn't much variaton put into it, the coat can easily be worn over the standard suit, while that "tie-shirt-around-the-waist" trend is a common theme for teenagers at the late winter/early spring transistion.
But you should perhaps worry for the nailed coolness, because eventually, as the story expands, I plan on giving him a bit more "action-figurish" costumes. Only the most necessary ones, of course, and that's far away into the future of Virt's story...
