Description Ranma1/2. I can reread that manga a bazillion times and still love each single panel.

Although I like drawing women having actual hips (why all of these bony skeletons nowadays?), this might be a bit over the top. I rushed to get this done in one day, but I do not remember how many hours it took. Pfft, it is quite funny how their faces change so much they look like different persons in every panel.

It is strange, but whenever I try to draw a comic I am having lots of fun making up jokes until I get to the actual punch line. I can never come up with a punch line! What is wrong with me?

Anyways, I know that people often complain about Akane being violent, but this is a great example of why that might be a good thing. A pitiful little stomp is not funny. She should have sent him flying or something (it was fun drawing her degree of anger increasing though).

Yes, it's a shame when it actually takes some effort to come up with good critique and people take it the wrong way. It is embarrassing when old drawings are concerned though (I can barely stand looking at my own). Someone might point something out and one's reaction is, "yeah, I don't really do that anymore "

60+ devs? that must take some time even with one-word comments. I hope that you do well on your exams. It sounds like a good idea to take a break and give the studies the focus they need.

Actually, I had a look at your profile before so I already know that you are not a guy And I still managed to say something stupid that made it sound as if I assumed the opposite. Plus, although this might be prejudiced, your user-name is kind of feminine.

Yeah, my username is feminine, I'm still a tomboy, the user came out of my nickname.
Or else, I would've had my username as "KidNinjaa",same as my email...
I have thought of my old drawings, I wanna go back and delete them, to hide my shame XD
I would still love more good critique from that friend I talked to you about, but now, she'll have to do it online unless she invites me over..

Very well done - I think you've got their characters down very, very well.

As far as your line about women who have hips - we're supposed to have hips. The emaciated things you see in Hollywood and on the "fashion" runways are not women. They're scarecrows.

Thank you very much and I'm all for hips and far too willing to rage over media's portrayal of women. *clears throat* Well, it just irked me how I was so quick with this drawing that I (somehow) never realized one of Akane's legs alone matched the size of her upper body. It's... a bit too much even for me.

Oh, but thank you for the sweet comment. I could not agree more with what you had to say about female curves.

Thanks a lot

Thank you for "translating". I think you got her reaction right with the stomp, but if he was saying the exact words he meant then she would have launched him into the atmosphere, since she's afraid of admitting that's what she'd want to hear lol.

It's great to find another big fan of Ranma 1/2, I never want the fandom to die.
It also means there are more fans out there that I hope might want to take a look at my Ranma 1/2 story I'm posting here on DA.

Either that or her eyes would grow to the size of her head and she would ask what's wrong with him or what he's up to (threateningly of course and then probably launch him no matter how he responds).

I feel that the Ranma1/2 fandom will never die (now, if only some anime company would realize that).

I am very happy that you enjoyed this little comic, and I might just check your story out

Yes she never seems to listen to him all that much, especially when one of the other girls have their arms around him

No, I don't think it will either, too many new fans along with the old die-hards like us.

And I have always thought the Final Act of Inuyasha was a test. I figured if it was deemed popular enough, Viz might seriously think about bringing back Ranma 1/2. There is so much of the story that I would love to see animated. I believe they ended the series way too early, most of the good action comes after he meets his mother for the first time and I think the Herb Arc would have saved the series too. But what doomed it was all the filler episodes they had.

If it does come back I just hope Disney or Nickelodeon doesn't pick it up or it will kill it like they're doing to DBZ and Naruto. I want to see it in the Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network, that way we get blood and the more "adult" shots.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spelarminlind In reply to Ranmano1fan [2010-06-10 00:31:13 +0000 UTC]

True, true. As bad as it is to admit I do not think that I would have listened either in such a situation.

VIZ is only involved with translating though? It would be up to a Japanese company to make an anime adaption and considering the vast amount of new material I doubt that anyone would consider picking up Ranma1/2 (as sad as it is).
I agree that the second half of the series is a lot more engrossing (although that can be applied to more of Takahashi's works). A remake would make me the happiest girl on Earth, as I never really liked the anime much (changed everything that made the manga the masterpiece that it is. Fillers contributed a lot). It is funny that you should mention the Herb arc as I have seen a lot of Americans bring that specific arc up. Of what I have understood, the Japanese crowd is not that crazed about it and the only part of it that I, personally, feel that I could put on a "definitely want to see animated"-list is Ryoga's great Shishi Hokodan. Would make a good movie though, I admit.
I do not really have access to those channels where I live. ZTV is the only one that has tried to show a few animes (and you can count them on one hand). For your sake, I hope that it can be showed on Adult Swim if it ever were to happen.

And no need to thank me for drawing this. I should be thanking you. It would not fulfill any purpose to post my drawings if I could not find the few people that would enjoy them. So thank you for making me this happy and feel that it is worth posting images.

Just checking, your story is Ranma/Akane, right? Because I do not read anything else.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ranmano1fan In reply to Spelarminlind [2010-06-10 14:16:19 +0000 UTC]

I seriously doubt any girl would.

Viz Media, I believe, is in charge of translating and distributing the series; both the manga and the anime; here in the states as is the case of Inuyasha, while in Japan the one that would be in charge of making the anime adaptation of the second half of the manga would most likely be RumicWorld, Madam Takahashi's own anime company.

Consider this then: You've seen the new Ranma OVA, right? Well, why bring it back with a new animation style if not to test it out? Granted, when I first saw it I didn't like the new style, but if it meant bringing back the series then I'm all for it. They also did OVAs for Inuyasha and UY in the new style as well, but I doubt it was just for this one time. I wholeheartedly expect them to come out with more sometime down the road.

I was more a fan of the manga too, since I couldn't find the anime when it was being aired, but thanks to youtube I've been watching the anime while at the same time making Ranma AMVs using the episodes I see.
A remake? You mean like The Final Act of Inuyasha with no filler episodes whatsoever until they reach the end of the series? I'd be happy if they did that.
If the Japanese audience didn't like the Herb Arc that much it might be a contributing factor as to why the show ended where it did. But I agree it would make a good movie as well as the ending of the series, I think the epic battle against Saffron on Mount Ho'o is too big to be contained in a string of episodes though I may be wrong. And maybe rework the ending so Ranma and Akane do get married, never liked how the whole series ended with them running off into the distance, I felt the last "2 years" we spent with them meant nothing that way.
I'm still waiting for The Final Act to air on AS first. But I am sorry to hear you don't have access, really must suck for you.

You're welcome, there are plenty of Ranma groups out there that would love to see this, I did I'll admit submit this to a group I co-founded so more fans would see it, because it is a wonderful piece of artwork. I feel the same when it comes to my writing. If not for the praise I get, I wouldn't keep writing like I do.

Yes, my big 4 part Path of Destiny Storyarc is RanmaxAkane paired along with a few others as the story progresses. And as a heads-up the numbered titles are what you'll be looking for, my short stories are labeled so not to be confused. I do have 2 RanmaxAkane short stories, but most of the others are RanmaxKagome paired, it was a bf/gf thing though she's now my ex-gf.
I don't like Ranma or Akane being paired with anyone else either, they seemed right for each other from the beginning and try to keep away from any stories that pair them with any of the other suitors.

Spelarminlind In reply to Ranmano1fan [2010-06-16 20:09:03 +0000 UTC]

I do still not really like the art style of the new OVA, but I would not like to dwell on the negative aspects as any new Ranma1/2 animation should be a positive thing. I believe that part of the reason behind the new style (except for making it more modern) would be that it started going downhill for Kitty Films that were making the anime in the past and they no longer had the license for it. Instead the new OVA was made by Pony Canyon that has been picking up Takahashi's later works.
This OVA was also apart of a 50 years anniversary and InuYasha and Urusei Yatsura were also a part of it (as you mentioned). Urusei Yatsura also has a lot of material that has not been animated (although, unlike Ranma1/2, its final chapters have been animated). So while I do believe that getting these OVA's is a great way to show interest, I doubt that the intention would be to see if people would want Ranma1/2 back, and there is no way to tell for which series a person is buying the OVA's. If anything, it ought to have served as great marketing for InuYasha Kanketsuhen that was revealed not long thereafter.

When I said remake, I really mean a remake from the very beginning. Without the fillers and the changes like removing Gosunkugi or setting up β€œmoments” with the other Tendo sisters as if there ever was a question about whom Ranma was getting engaged to.
Truthfully, I loved the ending as, after all, they are just 16 years old and it would feel strange to resolve all of the complicated relationships in a single volume. That would be like stepping over the characters' feelings that they have harbored through the full course of the story (and giving it the time it needs would mean that Ranma1/2 would be a completely different series). The Mount Phoenix Arc was just as epic of an ending as I could ever hope for and Ranma's confession (not in the least cheesy or untrue) felt like a good ending. I love drawing parallels to Shinobu (Urusei Yatsura) when she watches a future she created where everything is still the same and Inaba asks her if this is her ideal future. She says that it might not be, but she thinks that it would be good if they never changed. So although there is a future in store for the Ranma characters, there is still so much left for them to go through. And in spite of this we still got a sneak-peak at the wedding.
No, I just love the ending and I am satisfied just knowing that there is a happy ending waiting for them. They love each other, but the time is not right.
I had a look at your gallery and that I saw the RanmaxKagome stories was actually the reason that I asked. How sweet that it was something shared with another person (although in the past). I do intend to read your story. I just need to find the time to do so, and I apologize for not having found that yet.

Ranmano1fan In reply to Spelarminlind [2010-06-16 20:45:51 +0000 UTC]

I see, I didn't know the license had switched hands. I've seen the opening to RumicWorld and it mentioned the anniversary.
Whether they bring back Ranma 1/2 or not, right now I'd be happy if they bring some more OVAs down the road. But with the passing of the american voice actor that did the voice of Genma, it might not happen unless they can find a replacement.

Ah I see, that would be interesting if they did that, all those fillers took away from the main reason of the manga: the relationship of Ranma and Akane.
The ending does open up the mind as to what might happen after they ran off into the distance, but true Ranma fans know it wouldn't be an easy road. We really don't know what age Ranma and Akane are when it ended, they never mention it after the introduction.
The ending of the Phoenix Arc was excellent in the way of Ranma confessing his love for Akane, even if it was in his mind.
My big story is what I started off with, I used to have a bad outlook on crossovers, my parody story "Crossover??" was to reflect how I felt about them, but after I had met the girl that inspired me a ton I wrote those RanmaxKagome stories to show my feelings for her.
Read it when you can, I can wait forever for you to tell me how you feel about it, I just hope I do the entire series justice.

I always assumed that Ranma1/2 sort of took place in a time bubble. Of course time must exist for them, but they change their uniforms (summer/winter) a couple of times and still stay in the same class through the entire manga.
In the end, it is still obvious that they are young and that it would be better (more natural) for them to wait to get married. Of course, that is only my opinion. And it might not be easy for them even after they are married, but the things that make their life "difficult" play such a major part of their lives already that it seems to be their way of life. The obstacles have rarely posed a threat to (or even budged) their relationship. So it does not really matter. That is just their world and how it works and perhaps one day everything will even calm down. But that would not be the story as we know it, and so it must stay in our minds.

I am sure that I will enjoy your story very much^^ I will try to read it soon.
