I will definitely keep that in mind. I've been looking around since he lost his, and he's getting deployed soon so I'd like to get it as a return home present most likely.

deviantART is for artists to share and advertise their own work while getting feedback on how to become better at what they do.
Not one part of this is disgusting.

DDs just seem to make the popular more popular. There is already a most popular catergory. They seem to just be plucking them from there...
DDs used to be about showing people artists who were talented but didn't get as much attention as they deserved. This no longer seems to be the case.
Spexton, I mean no dispespect to you. It is more the DD system which I dislike, rather than your work. I have looked at your profile and you have some impressive stuff in there.

His work being popular and getting a DD is not his fault. I still don't understand your initial comment. What correlation do you see between spexton using dA as "free advertisment" and dA's seemingly partialty towards the more popular deviations?
I agree with that observation fully, but this ring is beautiful and deserving of a DD and his use of dA to advertise is his business.

I don't understand your slef-contradiction in saying that it is both not Spexton's fault, whilst at the same time he is "(using) DA to advertise his business".
As I have already said, I am not criticising Spexton. He is a private businessman and of course he needs to make money in order to eat. What I disagree with is the way in which deviatons are processed through the DD system. The featurer didn't even bother to put their own words for the reason for it being a DD. They just put Spexton's manufacturer's synopsis thingy. There was no mention of the artistic merits of the ring.

how are the two related, really?
how people react to his work and his attempts to gain recognition are two totally different subjects. He's using dA to show his work. However, whether people like it or not is not up to him. Just because the DD system is off doesn't mean he can't post his work. Unless you're saying that I'm contradicting myself because it was his fault to put up decent work in the first place, thus gaining him a DD. But in that case, the fault is on every amazing artist who's ever received a DD.
You should've made your criticism clearer. It seemed that you were calling his use of dA disgusting.

No. If you still think I am saying it is the fault of Spexton for my irritation after all I have said you have obviously not been listening to a word I have said.
If you are going to say that every single DA user to have received a DD is an "amazing artist" you are clearly so fuzzy-minded and generalised in the way you perceive things that I don't care to talk to you any longer. Are you really saying that you have looked at every DD since DA began? No? I didn't think so. To be more realistic, can you tell me that of all of the DDs you have seen, you have NEVER seen one that you thought was undeserving of being awarded a DD? If you say that you haven't, I would be tempted not to beleive you. I wouldn't trust your judgement much anyway, as you have only been on here for a few months. Therefore you haven't seen any part of DA develop. Let alone the DD system.
Again, I can't make my critisism clearer than saying in the first reply to you "Spexton, I mean no disrespect to you", I am criticising the DD SYSTEM, not you as an individual.
However, I am criticising your ability to form an argument, Love e.t.c e.t.c. I can appreciate the fact that you are only trying to defend someone, but in doing so I believe you have only made yourself look a fool.
In the grand scheme of things, this is a silly argument that I suppose I started by writing something so provocative on a deviation nominated for DD. I apoligise for wasting your time and please let this silly conversation lie now.
Have a good evening.

If you have any issue at all with anything to do with dA, including the way it selects its DDs, it is never appropriate whatsoever to leave such comments on the DD. The only appropriate way is to take it up via notes or e-mail with either $Moonbeam13 or me.

Hm, I can appreciate that. But are you suggesting I am not allowed to express my opinion on this?
btw, do you say this because someone has made a complaint about what I have said, or anything like that?

Love-Deception-Hurt In reply to tractern [2009-06-21 00:22:57 +0000 UTC]
first off, insulting people will get you nowhere.
I did not say that every artist to ever receive a DD is an amazing artist, I said that the amazing artists who have, by your logic as I understood it, are at fault. So that sums up my thoughts on your rant there. No, I have not seen every DD ever, nor have I believed every single DD I've seen to be amazing. However, spexton's is highly deserving and, as I said before, your logic [to my understanding] made it seem that being deserving but popular already puts him at some sort of fault.
And, again, you didn't state in your first comment that you meant him no disrespect, and I'm quite sure he appreciates that you've cleared that up already.
Thanks for insulting my arguing skills when I've been trying to gain clarification from you this entire time. If I look a fool, you must relise you look rather silly trying to bend my words to your will.
By saying that you wish to end the conversation after a flood of insults seems to me to be one of those ways that people act immature and try to twist it so that they are more mature if the other responds.
My final note on this: You didn't state in your first comment what was disgusting and I took it to mean[as I'm sure others had, including spexton himselfsee his reply to you] his advertising. That's why I replied. The DD system is not great and I do agree with you on that. However, spexton is deserving, as we both agree, correct?

I am sorry to have caused so much upset.
Because it was an argument and I have never met you before, so feel emotionally detached, I just went out guns ablazing to try to come out on toop in the debate/ argument/ conversation. Perhaps that was wrong of me.
If you see Spexton's reply, he does not seem very happy actually, lol.
I am not sure if I can agree with you on the point of Spexton being deserving of the DD. Of course, it is a very well made ring and Spexton is a extremely god at what he does, but to me jewellery making isn't an art. That's just my opinion. I only ask you to respect it as I would respect someone who says it is an art. I have a very sepcific idea of what art is. :/ Again, Spexton, please DO NOT take offence to this. It is just my opinion, which means as much as you make of it.

It's all fine. I got a little rude in my replies I'm sure, for which I apologise.
I understand that you don't see jewelry making as an art, because to me all this manga and anime bs isn't either. and some people would be incredibly upset if they heard me say that.

I can agree with you 100% on the anime thing. It takes a lot of skill, of course, but I think there is a bit too much on this site. Oekaki is the place for anime and stuffs.

Well, it's not the anime that gets to me, provided it's drawn with some kind of skill or at least effort. it's more when people draw things and they look like my little sister could have done better.
You're actually quite nice.

It is disgusting that an artist makes their entire living from their art? Daily deviations are disgusting? I don't even know the person who nominated me for this, nor did I write the description of my DD. Did you tell the rest of those nominated today they're disgusting?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
tractern In reply to Spexton [2009-06-23 15:08:25 +0000 UTC]
No, because I don't dislike the DD system in its completeness. Just the WAY by which deviations are chosen. Congrats on the DD, anyway.
And btw, if you read my other comments carefully enough, you would see that I wasn't criticising your means of making a living. Making money from hand-crafting jewellery is an interesting living, I am sure. I imagine it to be very satisfying for you to make things which will be with someone for a great deal of their life and sometimes used to formalise marriage vows. That is a very beautiful thing.
I apoligise for provoking your unnecessary hostility. My complaints weren't aimed at you, but certain parts of the DD system.
I am sincerely sorry for causing you to react in this negative way- I do feel a little bad about it.
Hope you have a good day.
