Here's one of my fave X-Men, Nightcrawler! Decided to do this before bed, since I needed a break from the animation I was working on.(WARNING...RANT COMING UP!!!)
Been playing catch-up on my comic reading, and just finished Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men, and moving on to X-Men: Messiah CompleX now. All that reading put me in an X-Men mood, so I watched the first 6 episodes of X-Men Anime with my brother...WOW, was that hard to watch!
Overall, I'm diggin' the designs, but they have the characters all wrong! I mean, there's a part where Cyclops and Wolverine are fighting these robots while riding motorcycles. What does Cyclops do? He stops the motorcycle, and shoots some missiles out of the front of the bike. Then he shoots some beams that look like his optic blasts, only they are still coming from his bike! My brother and I are pretty much wondering why the fuck he doesn't just use his optic blasts, and take care of business? He does...after the fight is almost over, and they got their asses handed to them for a few minutes. On top of that, the blast obliterates all the robots, making the entire fight redundant in the first place!
If that's not bad enough, Storm pretty much passes out everytime she uses even the smallest amount of her powers...Storm, one of the most powerful mutants, gets all weak from some minor static! And Hisako/Armor is this annoying, stereotypical anime character, that is afraid of her own shadow...Her comic book counterpart is really cool, and fun. Her anime counterpart makes me wanna punch things!
Lol, I guess you can see how much I dislike the series (at least from the mid-way point)! I think I'm mainly annoyed that after being based on arguably the two best runs on X-Men (Grant Morrison's and Joss Whedon's runs), it should have been mind-blowingly awesome...or at least half-decent! Maybe I'm just exhausted by the 6 episodes in a row!
Well, that was 2 weeks ago! I started watching X-Men Evolution instead, and plan to watch Wolverine and the X-Men following that, to fulfill my X-Men craving.

Oh my gosh, YES! I've tried getting through the Anime X-Men three times now and I haven't been able to...I just never can bring myself to go back to it. A lot of people have issue with Evolution, but I honestly really enjoyed it - it was much easier for me to stomach than the anime version.
Anyway, the pose here is great and I like the lighting style you used here.

I did notice the BAMFS, but I never actually realized that until now...That's pretty awesome! I'm gonna think of Samuel L Jackson every time I see Kurt teleport from now on!

Nightcrawler looks awesome! And I agree with you on your thoughts on the X-Men anime; their characterizations were kinda off.

The lines get a little wobbly in places, so I'd watch that, but otherwise nice work!

I noticed that happens often when I do the lines digitally, as opposed to doing it manually, and then scanning it! Not sure if it's an issue of my confidence in my line, or some issue with the medium...probably a bit of both.
But you're right, and I think I should try and get to the bottom of that!

your picture of night crawler is quite awesome! I started watching the X-Men anime a while ago but never followed up on it. i only saw the first 2 eps..it looks amazing but i dont think its my cup of tea

Haha, yeah...I'm not surprised! I don't think most people that are fans of X-Men to begin with, would enjoy seeing the characters act so different than what they expect. Though, I have to admit...I really enjoyed the intro of the first episode, with the death of Dark Phoenix! That was the one part that really impressed me!

I love Nightcrawler! (Although what was up with him in the movie.) You did a really great job on him here, the face is especially kick-ass.

Actually, I kinda liked him in that movie, to be honest. Nightcrawler's intro in that movie is still one of the highlights of that entire film, for me! But I'll admit he was a little different than the Kurt Wagner I'm used to. I really wish the 3rd movie didn't butcher the series, not to mention the spin-off material since! While the stories could have used a bit of work, I was really pleased with 90% of their casting choices. Hated Juggernaut's portrayal with a passion, though!

I love how the pose gives the character weight. It's very dynamic and I love seeing fan art that's not just in the regular dull standing position. Good job! And I also love the light blueish green highlights

Anyway, that anime sounds really terrible. I don't know Armor too well, though, the most I've seen from her was from "Wolverine and the X-Men", in which she was just a little girl.

I haven't seen the episode of Wolverine and the X-Men, that has her in it. I acually only caught about half of the series, since I was bombarded with school-work when the series came out. In the comics, Armor kinda reminded me of Jubilee. She's got that spunky attitude, but also has a slightly vulerable side to her. There's a really fun dynamic between her and Wolverine in Astonishing X-Men! For example, there's a part where Hisako tries to bad-mouth Wolverine (under her breath) in Japanese. Wolverine then responds, basically saying that she whines to her elders way too much (also in Japanese), which she then has an expression like her heart just stopped when she found out he could understand Japanese! (Armor's power connects her to her ancestors, which is why he mentioned the "elders" part).
