Robotnik isn't faster than Sonic, not by a long a shot. Sonic's just not out for blood, leaving his average speed fairly manageable, and Robotnik (as I once saw beautifully explained) is in full holy mother of god this thing is unkillable and is coming to get me run run run run mode.

Yeah, Sonic has been on hard times for...a very long time. For a while, it was because they kept cranking out games too quickly. Then, it was because they kept coming up with weird gimmicks for every game instead of settling on one, reliable engine (works for Mario, but not so well for Sonic). The Boom Debacle really could have turned things around for the Blue Blur, but everyone lost their mind during production.
Seems like Sonic still has a home on TV and comics, but it's gonna take some heavy-duty work to turn things around for his video games.
