How do you tell if someone is faking or being serious? I know I sound stupid but some people are good actors and some people actually do go through with suicide just to get what they want. I admit though that might be stemming from my paranoia after reading the Joy Luck Club. If you ever read it, you'd get what I mean. If you need a better explanation, just ask.

Eh, I usually assume those who announce to everyone that they're depressed are faking it and just want attention. They give a "woe is me" speech over something retarded, like a break-up or being grounded.
People with a real problem, they feel as if no one cares and everything is hopeless. So it's harder for them to vocalize their pain because they think it's pointless to speak out.
A faker is very vocal and over-dramatic. An actual depressed person, even if they do vocalize it, isn't going to give out a "woe is me" speech to every random person.
This is how I see it at least, I think it's mostly true ^^'

I had to voice out I have depression, not for attention, just so the people(in a chatroom online, online or not it was HARD)would understand and see that what they are doing to me is hurting me. It took me a very long time to vocalize that. And luckily, it actually worked. I actually had to be more dramatic so one of my bullies SAW THE PICTURE, which worked.
Needless to say, after that i shut up and went back to my quiet, usual self.

This made me laugh. I hate those with the intensity of a thousand burning suns! Selfharm seems to have become a trend, just like those "deep" depressive episodes with no one understanding you and no one liking you.. and having a psychological disorder makes you more "speshul" than others, plus you can use it as an excuse for almost everything. "Don't criticize me, I'm depressive and suicidal! And I have to shove that in people's faces!" Or doing some of those online "psychological" tests, then using the result as an actual diagnose. Oo According to these tests I'm a schizophrenic sociapath that would like to murder people, I've never heard something that ridiculous before. I'm the most benign person ever. Never trust internet tests, if you think you have real issues then go see a psychologist.

I'm a teen and I really do have depression. Some teens do have problems, and constantly battle depression.
I have depression, and it pisses me off when kids at my school act like it's cool to have it. Being in a constant state of sadness, and anxiety is a horrible thing. Now that it's a trend, and usually used for stupid attention whores makes me feel even worse.

I know where you're coming from. there's this girl at my school who was my "friend" she told the entire class that she had no friends at all. She said that right in front of her best friend (no longer me). then she even posted it to another site but the little sh*t took it down. She says she has a bad life.

What's really strange is that lack of attention CAN cause depression. But there's a difference between those who treat themselves as problems to solve, and those who believe they are people to be accepted as they are.
