Description
Sooo... A funny story.I've been enjoying the lovely pictures done by CelandineGranger and FlauxPG as part of the Secret Santa, depicting turtles in a snowy scene, complete with amazing backgrounds. See for yourself!
So that got me thinking... I want to try doing one of those myself!
Just as I'm considering this, my Secret Santa is revealed to be two-roads-and-apenny with a short story!
TMNT Christmas Carols ~ Jingle BellsJingle Bells
“Cowabunga!”
“MIKEY!” Raph shouted as his youngest brother’s sled kicked up enough snow to entomb him where he stood on the hill. “That’s it you little punk! I’m gonna bury your shell so deep you won’t be found till summer!”
Mikey laughed as his brother started chasing him down the hill. Mission accomplished. “You gotta catch me first, Raphie!”
“When I get my hands on you—HEY!” Again, Raph was pelted with snow by a sled speeding by.
“Sorry, Raph,” Don shrugged mischievously.
“Sorry my shell!” Raph growled, padding his hands against the snow to give his sled a boost. By the time he made it to the bottom, both his younger brothers were already holding their sleds, readying to head back up the hill.
“Getting slow in your old age there, Raphie-boy?“ Mikey avoided a smack to his head as he smirked a
A read through the story, and there's my picture inspiration right there. So I start drawing, I play with the background, I draw some more, I curse sledges, I colour, I'm nearly complete and I decide to go and read the story one more time. After having sobered up a bit from Christmas merriment and drinking…
Belatedly, I realise my error. The story is not set in the 2012 universe - I was open for pretty much all the universes for my Secret Santa to work from. And, TBH, the very first word should have given that one away.
So, although this was meant to be an accompanying picture for the story and a nice surprise for , it's not. Because I drew it for the wrong universe. Instead, it's a... random picture of the 2012 turtles going sledging. But hey, I had fun drawing it and hopefully you can get a giggle out of my folly!

Thank you very much! I've been working hard to improve my backgrounds, so it makes me happy to learn that people like them! The 2012 boys are fun to draw... Especially when i don't have to do their fiddly pads.

Oh wow! This is so adorable! I love their faces! They look ready to have a friendly race for once! xD They also look so cuddly in their sweaters! I just love turtles in clothes! You did a great job with the BG and the sledges! So detailed and neat! Well done!

Thank you!
They're mostly feeling friendly... There is still a bit of a competitive gleam in some of those eyes! Rivals forever.
Drawing the turtles in clothes was more fun than I expected, and a lot easier than I feared! It helped that the clothing was bulky so I didn't have to worry too much about the definition of the limbs. All the boys facing forward also meant I didn't have to worry about getting the visible curvature of the shell right.

Haha, fantastic.
To be honest, I never thought of a specific universe to put these stories in, but I suppose they do fit more so with the 2003 verse (due to the 'cowabunga' at the beginning). Be that as it may, I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. The story could easily work with 2012 turtles as well.
And besides, this picture made my day. Not only because it's my first fanart (which is a very big deal for me), but also because I love the details. From the pine trees, to the little birds, to the clothes that are clearly hand-me-downs. And especially the mischievous look on Don's face (he's even got his bo at the ready). It's fantastic.
Thank you so much. This is a wonderful surprise.

There were a few hints further down the story of it being the 2003 universe too, such as Casey referring to April as Babe. Donnie also came across less sassy than I'd expect from his 2012 personality. 2003 Donnie was the master of insults by stealth and wit. 2003 is fine by me! I love that universe too!
My brain just defaults to 2012 nowadays as that's what it's been infused with lately.
I'm really glad you like the picture! I love putting in all the little details. Although I have to restrain myself from adding everything I'd like to, as otherwise I'd never get any pictures finished-! I'm so slow at drawing.

Fair deal.
Now that I definitely understand. Though it still astounds me how artists such as yourself are able to create those details from nothing. I'm at least given a dictionary and thesaurus.

I love this! It fits very well with the story.
I am in awe of your pine trees. You draw them much better than I did!
I also love the turtles' uniquely mismatched clothes. Especially their homemade makeshift "boots". I just adore their huge feet!
Well done on this. It's such a fun picture and you did very well on the background.

Yay, thank you!
I was having fun throwing random jumble sale clothing onto the boys in increasingly outrageous colours. I figured none of them will care - there'd just be a scrabble to get the clothes that fit the best and are in the best state of repair! For the boots, I figure one of the four (or Splinter) must be reasonable at working with leather, as their belts are custom made. And if they could create those, then simple shoes based on the same principles should be easy enough and give them a bit of protection from the cold/wet.
(Although I do still have that image in my head of Raph knitting them all some socks... )
As for the trees... I have a pine tree branch brush that I use, which makes it quite easy. Don't tell anyone!

Yes! I love that Leo ended up with a pink coat, and Mikey's sweatshirt is awesome! XD
You're totally right about Splinter (and probably some of the turtles) being good with leather. That definitely makes sense.
You can still totally do a pic of Raph knitting. After all, in my pic, they were at the farmhouse and probably didn't have leather to make shoes. XD
Even with a cheating brush, I'm impressed. I like the shape of your trees.
