I made the design as a tattoo so I'm not really sure whether I would be happy with it being used as else where. I suppose it all depends how the image is used if you could show me an example and make sure my names on it somewhere then yeah I guess so...

technically a totem is :

A totem is any supposed entity that watches over or assists a group of people, such as a family, clan, or tribe.[1]

Totems support larger groups than the individual person. In kinship and descent, if the apical ancestor of a clan is nonhuman, it is called a totem. Normally this belief is accompanied by a totemic myth.


But I tend to think of animals in more shamanic terms more like a spirit guide or messenger

Well how I start my tribal animals is to start with a silhouette in pencil then add in key features such as eyes, nose, line of mouth, and the rest of the ears. I leave alot of detail out as the tribal shapes add so much detail on their own if it was a complex starter drawing it's going to look way over crowded. After that I concentrate on adding tribal shapes that run along or as close to the original lines as possible. I make these bold shapes as they are the animals defining features as I want people to be able to recognize this. Then I choose whether I want my shapes to intertwine, defining features are always on top. After comes the fun part playing with shapes that fit in between. The shapes that fit in between I try and use to hint at tufts of fur, direction of fur or a sense of movement in the animal.

sure np. and i ended up trying to make one, its not to bad for my first attempt, the division is supposed to be a seperation between the head and the tail. the head turned out okay in my opinion, but the tail could use some work. i was trying to represent the white tip by seperating it with that orb thingy, but i just dont think it turned out that well. and the paw could be better. and i think i made it a little to large, or i put to much on it.

Yeah thanks so much for lending it, me and shep watched it. What a film! It reminds me of Call of the wild apparently thats been done as a film but I've only read the book. Its a goooood book one of my favourites.
