Ohhhhh, I just realized! The "finery" comment is because Kamen decorate themselves when they're looking for a partner. Do they raise the... kittens? (is that what you'd call them? ) together?

As for... kittens... (lol), in current Kamen society (wartime), mothers keep track of their children personally. All males of age are considered 'fathers' and take the responsibility seriously, but it is generally viewed as a team effort to rebuild their people, and raise them to be fully useful members to society.
Every once in a while, a pair of Kamen will single each other out as mates, but they tend to be reclusive, because it makes them stand apart from the 'team dynamic'. These are known as "lifers".
Before the invasion, their mating culture was a bit different. Finding a lifemate (or 3) was a lot more common.
