Do you use oil or some other solvent for the "splashes"?

I use oil paint of different viscosities, (it doesn't work if they're the same thickness), thinned with mineral spirits. Does that make sense?

Very nice... but what do you mean it was an accident? How does one accidentally paint someone blue.... unless you're color blind, in which case how could you like it better blue (if you cant tell blue from pink or whatever?) Or were you trying the technique of doing an underpainting in blue (which will show through a bit, suggesting the bluish tones we see due to veins), with the intent of painting over with more "natural" hues, but decided to leave it? If so, I say it was a good decision.

Actually, I printed a copy of my reference photo so I wouldn't get paint all over the original, (I'm a bit messy when I paint), and my printer malfunctioned and printed the reference in blue. It looked good with the splashed background, so I figured it was meant to be...

This has always been one of my favourites! I think I may have a certain fondness of blue people.

Yeah... her being blue was a bit of an accident... chalk it up to serendipity. I like it better that way, so I left it.
