Description New looks for different characters in the DCU; a self-indulgent take on some of DC's most iconic.

Batman: I wanted him to look like a dark knight (a detective of vengeance). He has armor and a retractable cowl. His grapple hook isn't attached to his utility belt, and I updated said utility belt to be more high-tech. Instead of having shark-repellent hidden in his many pouches and pockets, he has a computer that is controlled by the various buttons on his belt. They can be used to signal Bats (high frequency), turn on the Batsignal, disable all the lights in the area (high frequency), SOS, GPS, and off course store his Batarangs. Also, Josh Brolin should play Batman.

Joker: Not Nicholson. Not Ledger. Not even Hamill. My version is inspired from Alex from Clockwork Orange, Marilyn Manson, and androgynous creepy serial killers (I'm sure they exist somewhere...). I figured Jack (or whoever is behind that makeup) was handsome before his "accident" and tried to cover it up with make up ("he's always smiling"). I mostly wanted to capture the flare and grandeur the clown prince of crime is known for.

Superman: High tech clothes, not armor, just Kryptonian fabric that's enhanced by the yellow sun. I still like the idea that the costume is contained in the and spreads when Kent is ready to make the transition (triggered by hormones, adrenaline, blood pressure, science etc.). It was either this, or a pair of long-johns and a red baby blanket.

Aquaman: Talking to fish doesn't sound cool (because it's lame), but if you think about it, there are a lot of creatures in the deep we don't know about. Aquaman is the that BAMF tells leviathan what to do. Atlantis is kind of Greek in nature, so I made him "Poseidon: the superhero" (which made an epic beard and a trident almost-mandatory). Played by Gerard Butler.

SHAZAM: Man-child with super powers. I figured that his SHAZAM state would reflect his personality (similar to my Green Lantern theory). So I imagined that his costume would be inspired by pop culture's take on heroes (anime hair and fingerless gloves)

Thanks for checking out my work, it makes me feel good.

SPLENDOR ENTERTAINMENT: A MOMENT OF GREATNESS God Bless.

Most of this looks pretty sweet. I like the Batman design all around, Joker makes me think of a mix of Beyond and The Batman's Joker, which is cool. He's got a more super heroey type look than the usual mobster style, so it's interesting. The spats are cool.

I like Supes. I've mentioned to you how much I like the gold buckle so you know that I like the bracers. A bit of red on the sleeves is sweet
Aquaman looks sweet. I like that metal arm sleeve. He looks really sleek, so I feel like the beard is a pinch too long. That's just me, though.
Is Captain Marvel's bolt just a design, or is it supposed to be under the button over part?

Thanks, I wanted him to look like a semi-futuristic ninja knight (that way he can stand side by side with Superman, Wonder Woman, and co.).

Joker, I wanted to be somewhat flashy, yet refined in a creepy way.

Gold would work really well for a inherited Kryptonian look.

I debated on the beard length as well. I wasn't sure if I wanted a Poseidon, Leonidas, or Maximus beard.

The lightning bolt is a stylized button.

Thanks for the compliments.

Oh so it's like the snap for the fold in the fabric? Or it's like a separate piece of old geometry?

Shazam is the name of the Wizard who give Billy his powers. His hero name is Captain Marvel.

I know, but the DCnU calls him SHAZAM and Captain Marvel sounds better as an actual Marvel character.
... and I just like how SHAZAM sounds.

Interesting take on Captain Marvel, and not one I thought about before. But it does make sense. Batman, very similar to my design in some ways (you did have quite a few points I didn't, such as the computer and the Brolin-ness). Aquaman? I love big-bearded Aquaman. Androgynous Joker is just plain suave and creepy here, and the MoS is simple, cheerful, and iconic (just the way he should be).

SplendorEnt In reply to Kerevon [2013-01-12 18:46:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I thought about adding a lot of detail like movie costumes since they're "cooler" now, but I left it alone (for now).

I like your Batman design especially how you handled his cape open and closed looks and how he was still intimidating (the dark night and the dark knight; I was going for that too, but you described it better). Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling are my two picks for the Batman.

Decided to almagam elements from 300, Gladiator, and Poseidon.

Thanks, I really like this Joker. I thought about giving him a purple suit, but I like the tux better.

And for Supes, I just wanted to really exaggerate the primaries (so bright and cheerful that it's almost obnoxious). It's weird and attracts a lot of intention like his traditional costume

Would've liked to see those long johns on Supes, but everything looks a-okay here (Though Supes may need more then just a belt to break that blue)

Thanks, glad you like 'em. Ironically, the long johns were actually simpler (all blue except for the and cape) than this version.

Nah. It's super minimalistic since he has to wear it under his clothes.

I like your take on Aquaman. The others, not so much. But, that's just my opinion.

It's cool. Any reason in particular throwing you off (too much black, undies outside pants, etc.)?
Glad you like Aquaman. He's pretty difficult character to make look cool.

Triumph-or-Die In reply to SplendorEnt [2013-01-12 23:52:47 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure. Maybe it's the whole "Anime" look for me. But then, way back when they first announced the Batman Animated Series, I hated the art style then also. But, after actually seeing the show in action, it quickly became one of my all-time favorite interpretations of the characters. So, I'm sure your versions would grow on me over time.

SplendorEnt In reply to Triumph-or-Die [2013-01-13 19:54:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh, well the style is from the template I used (fabrica de herois aka hero factory) so I don't really have control over that, but I see where you're coming from.
