Description Figured I may as well submit this now because I don't know when or if it'll be completed. Both of my Wacom tablets are dead (broken cables) and it might be a long while before either is usable again.

If I can get this accursed new submission process to work, then there will be a close up of the body in Scraps.

I'm very unhappy with the photorealism of parts of the water. It doesn't work with the rest of the image and it irks the hell out of me that there appears to be a photograph blended into the background. There is no photo.

Okay, do feel free to call me a bitch, but here's some constructive criticism (I hated it, but you've got to take it and learn from it, or you don't get better).

The shadows seem a little too hard, and could stand to be softened off and made a little lighter, especially around the edges. If they are on a layer of their own take the opacity down a little and work into them with your blur and smudge tools.

The foreground water looks fantastic, but as it moves further back, it stops working as well. I'd guess that again, it's because it looks too hard (solid), but also, its colour contrasts too heavily against the colour for the sand.

The Egret looks very well executed, and the only thing I would suggest is that maybe you work into some of the feathers and add more detail (a terrible pain in the ass to do, but it brings its rewards). You don't need to go nuts with the detail, just enough to suggest the 'featheriness' would be great. At the moment, they look too blended/airbrushed.

Beyond that, the only thing I would recommend is to look at as many images of your subjects as possible, and try to learn from them by making some sketches/studies from the images you find.

Fabulous painting!!

The last thing I'd call you is a bitch. I told someone not long ago that I'd rather have one person tell me what they hate about an image than a bunch of people saying stuff like, 'nice' ... 'pretty', etc. I'm trying to learn about art so it's all about the critiques for me. The worse the better, if you know what I mean. I appreciate your feedback very much and agree with every point you made.

I did get my tablets fixed but have yet to pull the poor egret out of its folder and attack it again. I haven't touched a piece of art in months. One of these days ....

Thanks very much for your comment. Best one I've read in ages.

This is brilliant! There's something both majestic and ever-so-slightly comical about the egret, and you captured that blend extremely well!

Super-hyper-frikkin-reall-looking. This is one of my fave styles of art. It's so full of hyper-detail one knows it's a painting and not a photo. Gives me that cool feeling like when I can see the image in a magic eye pic. As for what you said about the water, get this: Pixar Studios had to 'flub' their water in Finding Nemo because it looked too good, too real!! Good on ya, mate!

Actually, I'd like to see a close-up of that rusty old pole over there. If that's all right with you, that is.

Done. LINK

They're rectangular selections filled with gradients and then painted with different splatter brushes.

Isn't it past your bedtime?

I think you'll be disappointed with the poles, but I'll go dig it up and stick it in Scraps.

Bedtime? Who said anything about a bedtime?
Well, I guess I am a little sleepy.

Oh G-d, I thought this was a photo...

Don't be hard on yourself, the photorealism of the water is incredible, and the ripples too...

All the detail is amazing.

OMG!

So not what I expected to hear on this image. Took me completely by surprise. Thank you a bazillion times over!
