Technical breakdown.
Went back through the original model and really realized how bad it was. For whatever reason I didn’t want to use the smooth shader so I just gave anything rounded a stupid number of faces which resulted in the mesh getting all messed up and looking kinda wonky up close. Fixed that with the new one by using a whole lot less faces and then using a subdivision surface to round it out. Most of the shapes were cut directly into the hull which made painting it easy. The edge lighting was the only thing that I couldn’t get to look great, tried adding a lot of color modulation to it and a fresnel shader but something about it still looked off.

Hai Nyhla (or Winding Winds) was a relatively new ship when it was commissioned as the flagship of the 2nd Royal Flotilla in what would be the late 21st Century on earth. It saw action over the following hundred or so years in various planetary conquests and skirmishes with other species. Following the glassing of an inhabited moon by the 2nd Flotilla, her captain and crew became disillusioned with the tactics of the empire. After the outbreak of war between the other galactic powers and the Idarian Empire in 2175, the Nyhla along with several other ships would defect, turning on their allies in defense of the crippled ACPS Elysium Mons. The ships would assist the Mons and join the 5th ACPS Fleet under the Iron Tarkus. Most vessels of the class were solid white except the heat sinks on the wings, but after joining the defectors painted black markings similar to the vitiligo markings unique to Idarians as an act of solidarity. Nyhla would survive the war and would serve for long afterwards.
