She's such a cute character! ^.^ I think having the black ear works well with the idea of distributing color across the character. It helps to offset her black tail tip.

I've played around with her hair color before. First black, then brown to match her fur color. Brown with a lighter brown streak, then black with brown streaks. Back to black again, and now back to brown with the classical black ear.

Ah. Β I've had a few characters where I messed around with their designs. Β Oddly, I've never felt a reason to change the colors on my character Haydrian. Β I did play with the shade of yellow I was using for him, and the shade of red for his boots and gloves, but that's about it. Β Mostly it was just fine tuning the colors I already had picked out.

Oh, actually, looking back to find some of my older references, Hayde has change a bit. Β Mostly in changing his spine design, then trying to refine how I drew it.
I think this was the first fully rendered image I did of him. Β I sucked at drawing anatomy back then, so I used the Sonic Racer's as a base.Β
Quick and messy ref I did several years later, but already I'd started making changes to his spines to make him more unique looking. And since I was starting to get more of an idea of his story, I started working out his gear more as well. Was still having a hard time with his spines at this point, but it was getting there.
And, many, many years later, I did it again, determined to finally get a proper sheet made for him, and to update subtle things that had changed.
By this point, I have a /much/ better idea of who he is, where he's from, and what his over all story and background are. I also learned more about the things he would need to carry with him, and what kind of cultural influences I wanted to add into his mix. I had also spent some time working out a much more distinct shape for his spine formation, and learning about where he was from lead me to change a few other things about him as well. Hopefully I have exaggerated them enough that those things should be noticeable.
I also better developed the style I was going for in things, giving my own characters a little bit more of a fantasy leaning then the source.

Thats really cool on how you make these. the coloring is great! but a bit curious what was the inspiration of her mechanical arms coming out of her hat?Β
it reminds me of disney, since i remember seeing these type of robotic hands in the Mickey mouse club house show.
also have you tried animating yet? just wondering of the fact, since i at times imagine your character in movement. especially when she's mad. :3

I'm happy you've taken interest to my "Gfox" character/ toon sona. Those mechanical hands that pop out from her hat were inspired by "Inspector Gadget" Howler from the 80's "Pound Puppies" cartoon show. and just recently Doc from "The 7D". And maybe also Dr. Seuss too.Β
I've tried animated before a LONG time ago. But stopped. I am however very slowly doing an animation now. It's nothing too extreme or fancy, but when I get it done. It'll be posted. I don't animate nor finish comics cause of how time consuming they are. Then again, I don't want to be a one trick pony.Β

Thanks so much for putting a lot of info. Thats really cool that you do some animation at least. I'm still on the "big dreamer" stage. idk, I'm a huge fanatic on cartoons and want to major in it. but I'm not sure due to people's bad experience with it and sappy sad lifes no offense to them.Β
Soon i really want to develop my art style and eventually have a career to have fun in doing so.

You're welcome. Just take your time. Doodle about at most when you can. Find the animation style that best suits you. Play around with it. Look at tutorials and practice. I hope to be my own boss with my art.Β
