Description
yeah so i've gotten a bit into mlp again. I was huge fan of the series up until season 5 when I fell out of it, and my quest to draw ponies was part of my growth as an early artist. Nostalgia aside, I had a very out-of-the-blue idea a few months ago and have been tumbling it around since then. Doodled a few characters and now here they are.

[Keep in mind this story is just a work in progress, so prepare to see brackets explaining things that I'm unsure on and/or may change]

Each of these ponies is from a different timeline [or dimension? gonna go with alternate timeline for now] where things turned out/worked slightly differently. Each of these ponies is a child of Twilight Sparkle (Princess Twilight in most timelines) and one of the Mane 6. And each of these ponies embody a specific 'motive' of magic, and are extremely gifted magically in their own ways.

To play. To provide. To control. To devote. To heal.

One day, these 5 ponies are mysteriously brought together into one timeline - a timeline where uncontrolled chaos began running rampant and entropy seems inevitable. [I'm still figuring out what this chaos is caused by exactly, I'm thinking something unrelated to any previous villain though] Putting aside how they all ended up there for the time being, they decide to work together to return harmony to the timeline, with the hope that they'll be able to go home after the day is saved.

...Now they just have to figure out how.

✦Prince Spur-of-the-Moment Sparkle✦ [This name is fun but I'm not sure about it. Might change it to something with the word Whimsy?]

Spur-of-the-Moment Sparkle (Spur Sparkle for short) is a hoof-full of playfulness and pranks. And despite being an earth pony, Spur has an incredible amount of magic.

Earth ponies are often mistaken as having no magic, but this isn't really true. Though it's often subtle, earth ponies magic is channeled through their hooves, usually in the form of strength, cultivation or crafting - but the most bizarre form earth pony magic can take is the chaotic kind, the ability to bend physics on a whim. And as long as Spur is using his magic for fun, he can pull seemingly impossible tricks and surprises. Spur's most impressive feat is his ability to hover and fly to a limited (and very wobbly) degree. "Gravity? More like... Gravy tea!" *Spur inexplicably pulls out a cup of 'gravy tea' and takes a nice, long sip*

This kind of magic takes a relentlessly playful heart to wield. Hopefully all the jokes stay in good fun, because when you can make anything happen just for a laugh, you might end up the only one laughing.

✦Prince Plethora Sparkle✦ [I am REALLY not sure on this name. Could change to Double Dazzle but it felt too similar to Double Diamond?]

Plethora Sparkle is an almost dizzyingly graceful unicorn, exuding regal presence wherever he goes, with an overall kind yet oblivious personality to boot. His powerful magic comes with the special talent to duplicate objects. A kind of spell that is usually exhausting to most unicorns, Plethora can cast consistently without a second thought (even when he probably should have given it one.)

Plethora's magic is moved by his biggest belief, that the world can use so much more. More food! More gems! More flowers!! More dazzle!!! Which leads to Plethora duplicating all sorts of things on a whim. Compliment his accessory? "Oh, well you now have one too!" Made a delicious cake? "Why, everypony gets a share!" Not to mention the castle constantly being covered in the pretty flower Plethora found that week.

This kind of magic requires a positively insatiable heart to wield. Just hope you don't lose yourself to only satisfying your own desires - for you'll find nothing will ever be enough.

✦Stellar Core Sparkle✦ [this is the name I'm most happy with for sure, took a long time to come up with. I really wanted a name involving "core" like apple core but I couldn't come up with anything for a while, so I went through names like Elstar Bright or Crisp Cripps until I found out Stellar Cores exist lol]

Stellar Core Sparkle is an anxious unicorn, one who prefers being in the background as much as possible. Yet she's in a constant state of wanting to know where everyone is and what they're doing, leading her to being a bit of a busybody. Her magic is the most sporadic of these five, though it is possibly the most powerful when in full effect, and it comes in the form of control. Usually control of the environment, but it is possible for Stellar to manipulate bodies as well.

Stellar Core lives her day-to-day life largely without magic as she's unable to use it for even levitation. Her magic comes to the surface when she's trying to get to the bottom of something or when something's about to go wrong - if she's there, her magic will instinctively activate and fix the situation. In some cases it may alert her to the source of danger. In worse cases, it can halt her surroundings. Or in the case of a problem pony, Stellar's magic can extract the truth straight from their mouth. Her magic is strongest when she's most worried or desperate, such as a loved one being in harm's way, etc.

This kind of magic requires a desperately inquisitive heart to wield. But is it good enough just being prepared? Just being ready to help wherever necessary? Or might you find it much better if you controlled all the strings yourself?

✦Ardor Sparkle✦ [super unsure of this name, I want to include Ardor, so I've considered Ardor Heartrush, Ardor Blushrush, Ardor Heartarc - but they all feel too on the nose, though maybe that's just how pony names are]

Ardor Sparkle is a fairly moody unicorn, prone to pessimism and introversion. Even so, Ardor has a passionate heart that leads them to countless creative endeavors, even at their most angst. And perhaps their capacity for introspection is a gift of it's own (even if it usually feels like a curse.) Their magic is also above average - their special talent being the ability to affect or enhance the feelings of ponies.

Now, if you asked Ardor to explain their talent, they would describe it as "total emotional manipulation." And so even if their power in theory can make ponies feel better, they deliberately choose to never use it (or... not anymore at least... *closes eyes and turns away so face is in shadow, clearly brooding on the past.*) and are kind of ashamed of it. That aside, the way their magic works is that they can shift the way ponies feel about things and it can even work on themself. A complete shift of emotions can take a bit of mental effort, the much easier spell simply enhances the pre-existing emotion.

This kind of magic takes a dangerously devoted heart to wield. Love is a powerful thing, as well as hate. And oh, how nice would it be to just have love come your way?

✦Princess Featherfine Sparkle✦ [I really like this name but also am not sure about it? I've also considered Featherfire or Flitfire. Her name could also just be Feather??]

Featherfine is a very attentive pegasus, who will pester you to no end if she notices the slightest hint that you're unwell. She cares a great deal for other's wellbeing, thinking it must be her duty to take care of as many ponies as possible. I mean, she was gifted with special healing magic for a reason, right?

Featherfine has a very rare focus of pegasus magic, which comes in the form of affecting injuries when she covers them with her wings. This allows her to ease pain completely and even help mend wounds. Because of this useful power, every injured pony who can make it to Canterlot comes to get healed by Feather - and Feather couldn't bear turning anypony down. Overtime she's become quite burdened with her duty and yet.. she still feels that she needs to help more somehow.

This kind of magic requires a painfully tender heart to wield. Yet, how much can you care until it all turns to hurt? Affecting wounds doesn't just mean healing, y'know.

Anyways I've spent waaay too long writing this. I don't know how much I'm going to ever do with this story and these characters, I do have some ideas in mind. But hey I just think designing ponies is neat.
