Description Okay, this is my first ever photomanipulation, so I know it could use A LOT of work. But I had SO much fun doing it! I could have done a lot more, but it came down to me eventually getting so burnt out on it lol, I didn't want to ruin my taste to do more. Please tell me what you think? Like it? Love it? HATE it? Rip 'er apart! Anyhow, the plan for it was to have her as a massive statue in a cavern, but due to inability to find a suitable backround, I left her as this. But a dormant machine of destruction~

Stock used was made by the AMAZING Seriously, this is a great stock artist, very easy to use and a huge variety.

That's really cool!!!! I like the way you made her look other-than-human.

I know a lot of 'nipers get stock background textures from sxc.hu...

This is quite good for your first Photomanip. The only real advice I can give you from my own experience is that don't rely on Photoshop's built in filters... instead paint on the details you want or need, like highlights and whatnot. You will have more control that way.
Although, The use of the plastic wrap filter does work in this picture. I only say plastic wrap, because that is what it reminds me of.
As for making her look like a robot or a machine, I like the way you put the seams and bolts on her, although you should of added in some kind of joint system for her knees, legs, and elbows, much like you put a seam around her
neck. Think the joint system of a children's action figure. You could even add some sort of mechanism for her mouth to open or not, for she could be an automaton that doesn't have to move her lips to communicate.
If you have any questions on how to do anything, Google it or feel free to message me with you question and I will try my best to answer you.

You're quite correct about the plastic wrap bit! I did her body and hair on different layers, the hair is more of a combination of high intensity dodge/burn/plastic wrap, and her body is more a combination on erasing/dodging/burning on plastic wrap which helped a lot in placement of reflectives, I've got poor sense of reflective light sense most of what I do isn't really 'shiney' so to speak, but I'm practiceing! I really thank you for your indepth comment, you don't see it much on dA which is why I was so inactive for a while. The reason I didn't add in more of a joint system was because I was starting to get so burnt out on the image, as well as not really having the ability~.

For reflections and how they work, is look at the back of a spoon. It is a prime example of how reflections work... or anything in the room. When I work... I draw huge straight arrows on my work to show me where my light source is out and on the other side of the object I am coloring I draw bent arrows representing the reflected light. When doing textures, I try to find something I have close by or in my house that is close to the texture I am trying to imitate... A plastic bottle for shiny things, a spoon for chrome and gold ( Gold is just chrome with a yellow-orange overlay)
I know how it feels working hours on end to get a piece to look right. You are probably much like me in the sense you want immediate results, although things don't work that way.
Worth 1000 has some good tutorials on things similar to what you were trying to achieve.
Now, as for my responses, you are welcome. I am just one artist trying to help another, and this is DA not Myspace.
