Description It was a slow day in the Netherworld. Having not received an other from their demanding but incompetent leader,  the ghosts and other inhabitants were going about their day while expecting to be called by Betrayus at any given moment. Unbeknownst to them, the fiery ghost lord had not intended on giving them any orders at the moment, considering he had other plans.. plans that involved taking or rather pulling a certain handsome spirit with him to a gift shop of sorts.  Despite being literally dragged there, Specter seemed to go along with Betrayus without much of a complaint. It was most likely because of his high tolerance and hard-to-anger demeanor.

"Why did I have to come with you exactly" came the questioning voice of the slightly confused but calm steel gray, lightning ghost. Being dragged along didn't bother him much, but a dingy-looking gift shop was certainly not where he expected to be taken. Then again, expecting a decent gift shop in the Netherworld may have been a stretch, given many things in the place were covered in a thin layer of dust and dirt, and spiderwebs could occasionally be seen in corners. Generally speaking, a place like this would certainly fail an inspection if it were a restaurant with the exact same cleaning standards. Although, since the Netherworld isn't exactly know for cleanliness, it could have a chance at passing  anyhow, but that was beside the point.

"Because I told you to," the demanding fire spirit uttered in response, pulling Specter with him through the doors of the shop. Being who he was, that was a good enough reason for him. "..Don't forget you're my personal servant, so you do what I tell you." Betrayus would honestly have expected anyone who inhabited the Nether Realm to obey him, personal servant or not, but in this case it was an obligation.

"No need to remind me. I'm well-aware of our agreement," the spy replied, the agreement being that he had to be this ghostly tyrant's butler in exchange for his freedom.. which seemed more like a change of punishment than being freed. Regardless, even Specter could agree it was better than cleaning up after dragons, although he would have thought Betrayus would preferred to have him suffer the more undignified of the two punishments. As baffling as it was, he certainly wasn't going to question it. It was lucky enough, the ghost lord had even considered it.

"Good. Now hold these." The fiery spirit wasted no time shoving a couple of knick-knacks that had caught his eye into Specter's arms, obviously not wanting to hold them when he could make someone carry the items.

"Let me guess.. you want me to purchase them for you." It was the only assumption that came to Specter's mind, even if the trinkets did seem.. well useless.

"Exactly. Why spend my own money when I can spend your money instead," Betrayus responded with a sharp-toothed grin forming on his ectoplasmic face.

"Of course.. Fortunately for you, I have enough to cover such things." Despite having to pay for the stuff, Specter didn't seem too annoyed. In fact, he just seemed as composed as usual.. on the outside anyway.

"Yeah, yeah. Now shut up. I'm looking here," the black and white phantom spoke, his attention shifting from the handsome apparition to a shelf filled with miscellaneous objects.. all of which would seem worthless to most. Nevertheless, Betrayus' clawed hands searched through the shelf for anything that even remotely sparked his interest, pushing the things he deemed uninteresting to the side while Specter merely watched. "No. No. Definitely not..," Betrayus mumbled as he continued to look through items, finding none that he wanted to take a closer look at until he came across a ring of some sort.. more specifically a mood ring that claimed to be magical and guaranteed to work. Since ghosts normally just had fingerless nubs, rings would be of no use to them, but the ghost lord at least had claws to try the ring out with if he wished to.

"Aren't you a little old for mood rings," the previously quiet spy couldn't help but ask once he noticed said mood ring in Betrayus' claws.

"Very funny. I'm just proving it doesn't work," the unamused leader muttered with sarcasm in his first few words, slipping the ring onto his index claw despite expecting it not to work properly.

"If you say so.." If the childish ghost lord was going to play with mood rings, Specter wasn't going to stop him.

Betrayus simply ignored the other spirit's nonchalant words as picked up a card that provided all the ring's possible colors and glanced at what the colors stood for.
"Ha! It says green is for fear. Do I look fearful to you?" He pointed a metallic claw at his face.

"I suppose not.. but the ring seems to be a dark green to me."

"Eh?" Apparently, Betrayus hadn't even noticed there were two kinds of greens on the color code card, a normal green and a darker green.

"I knew that," the hotheaded leader grumbled, taking another look at the card. As soon as he saw what dark green meant, he threw the card to the side and it landed on the floor.

"Just as I thought. The stupid excuse for a ring doesn't work." Betrayus removed the mood ring from his claw and carelessly tossed it back on the shelf.

"Hmm?" Out of slight curiosity, the spy moved to pick up the card with his free flipper-esque hand only to chuckle at little at the words that were printed by the dark green color.

"In love?" Evidently, Specter was amused by this.. but Betrayus, however, was less than pleased with the spy's joking manner.

"Shut up!"

"Perhaps the ring is trying to tell you something."

"I said shut up!" A corner of the annoyed fire spirit's mouth curled upward to bare set of sharp teeth as he glared. Sure, he thought Specter was attractive, but he'd sooner admit to many other things than say that to the charming individual's face.

"What? I'm pointing out the possibility that the ring isn't a fake," Specter teased with another chuckle.

"It's a toy!"

"And your point is?"

"It doesn't mean anything, and you're a brainless half-wit if you're convinced it could possibly work."

"Or you're simply in denial."

"I am NOT in denial!"

"Are you quite sure? That sounds like denial if you ask me."

A low growl escaped from Betrayus' mouth as he clenched his mechanical claws. He was so close to smacking that smug grin off of Specter's face. "Well, it's not! And if you value your afterlife, you'll drop it before I sentence you to a worse punishment than your last."

As amusing as it was to poke for at Betrayus for a bit, Specter knew it would be unwise to provoke him further, whether or not the black and white ghost was bluffing or being serious. "I was merely joking. You really must lighten up," he said, the grin having remained on his face.

The childish ruler incoherently grumbled something under his breath, taking the mood ring off his claw and tossing it back when he found it in the first place. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Just buy the things already. I don't have all day."

Specter took that as a sign that the impatient ghost lord was finished looking around, although he expected it had something to do with his teasing. Nevertheless, the spy silently acknowledged the words and floated over to pay for the objects Betrayus wanted him to purchase. He had a feeling the selfish spirit was only interested in these useless items for the sake of having someone waste their money, but he could be wrong.

Once everything was paid for, the lightning and the fire spirit exited the gift shop, Betrayus snatching the purchased items not even a moment after they left the store. Specter, of course, expected the greedy being to do something of the like before they parted ways, and because of the incident with the mood ring, the currently calm spy had a feeling Betrayus would get back at him for teasing about the ring. He could only anticipate the different ways the tyrannical leader to embarrass him as revenge and endure it if and whenever the time came.

Heeeeeyyyy! :3 I'm writing a story about Betrayus and I'm not a native speaker nor very good in literature(grammar and stuff) So I was thinking if you could help (if so then answer with a note) and maybe help in giving ideas for it. Also changing somethings would be allowed after discussion and such. (like collab story. I'm not sure how long it will be I'm writing it randomly as I go and I've got 2 pages written in Word at the moment)

(also no fan of the pairing in this story but it's well written in my opinion =w

This was such an excellent read! And I'm not just saying that because I like Specter/Betrayus but this was very well written with just the right amount of detail and most importantly of all you kept Betrayus and Specter in character the whole time. If I could I would give you a round of applause right now. XD

This is the farthest thing from badfic. I consider myself a critic and I don't often hand out compliments but you totally earned my respect as a writer.
