I have alot f pieces to comment on older thn this oe of yours but something about this piece drew me in and i decided to take a closer look. at first the black seemed like it ws it's own figure in the thumbnail with another figure holding it up and my brain didn't even read the title but i felt a strange death about it. And it still keeps changing. as I looked before the black area beaeath the figure looked as if it was an uncomfortable resting place for this lost soul that had given up i search of something but then as I typed and looked again it felt as if it was still living and the darkness was its spirit being drained away and pulled from it's weary body. BUt it all feels as if it's grusome if you peal away the corners. THe bodyseems broken, beaten fro perhaps one action or a life time of struggle while the mouth covered over as if it's been graffitied on. So harsh and quick as if the creatre had lost it's voice almost instanly and maybe that's what it is, we have so many freedms but often we don't have the things we want and no mater how much we cry out no one will listen.
The shadow inthe corner feels as if it is watching something to, this broken body or perhaps it is us, a shadow of us looking in... whatever it isit is strangly creepy even though the colours suggest somethin more soft and cold...
i am sorry for any mistakes in the typing am tired but i couldn't help it this couldn't wait... the picture intreaged me so

is an 'abstract' still really 'abstract' when it holds so very much meaning? (i mean, this is certainly not just a few shapes on a board, or a one-colour canvas)
the body appears stripped to me, like we're just seeing the muscle and sinews without the skin... rather macabre, no?

Abstraction with representative figure can be present with meaning. No one said abstract could not be meaningful. 
(though you're prolly right, should have put it in the macabre section... though i'm rocking on the main abstraction page.. *cough*)

i didn't mean abstract art is meaningless... its just a lot of it seems not worth presenting (i know its a timeless argument, but i really don't like those artworks that are just one-colour canvases, for an example)... i was looking at the = sign and thinking that one with 3 strokes (as it appears) means something in maths, which is a horrible thought, i just can't remember what it means (something about triangles? idk) lol... but i see, that particular symbol does have thought behind it, as usual, i just couldn't pick it

nah thats an equal sign ... just a frayed line that makes it look like a 3 liney thing. >_> my bumbling hands fault. (and when you're depressed, you don't care to double check your work.. actually when you're lazy you're about the same too.. lol)
I think contemporay abstract art has more to say then previous decades with it. Like now there seems to be an expressive abstract movement taking place. I HATE early abstract pieces, and minimalism. I understand them.. but it really doesn't seem to be my thing.

yeah... we never really studied abstract art, and i guess i've not had much interest in it, mostly, but if i get back to that thing of study, maybe i will ^_^
