Description
It's all about plates, baby!Lately my poor brain has been vomiting forth a dearth of ideas for various plates and platters, and I've spent the past 5 months working almost exclusively on them. Some look good, some.... not so much. Here's the first.
Those who know me and my work know that I suck at throwing on the wheel. Really. You can feel the air moving inexorably in my direction every time I sit down at a potting wheel. Perhaps because of that lack of skill, or perhaps as a mocking homage to it, comes this plate. A clay slab was placed on the wheel, and the familiar circular pattern was made in the clay sheet (insert sucking sound here as even this idea took me 3 tries to accomplish). Then a circle was cut from it, with the pattern's center offset, and draped over a plate form for finishing. I think the results are fun and whimsical.
Size is about 10" diameter. Glaze was *supposed* to be in shades of blue, but either I grabbed the wrong bucket (likely) or the combined glazes produced a non-blue result (possible). It's not unlikable.

Very cool! I've never tried slowing off the slab myself... I think I might have to try it sometime, because this is fantastic

You know . . . when I saw that, the exact question "How did they do that??" popped into my head. Terrific job on an original idea.
