Description
For the cover of a book called "The Nightmare Card", written by Catherine Johnson and published by Barrington Stoke . This one was a fun challenge. The brief was to take the tarot card, the Nine of Swords, and adapt the imagery to the cover of a horror novel for teens. It was a great design exercise, and I especially enjoyed referencing all the swords, and looking up info on the tarot card (I have an Aquarian pack that I bought because of a script that involved Tarot, beautiful illustrations!)Related content

may I ask what you use on the computer to create these works of art? I know you probably use a tablet.

I used pencil and paper for the lines, but computer and tablet for the colouring. That's my usual method

It's a joy to see swords that actually look like swords. Good job on the referencing!

I like this, especially the placing of the swords and the shadows of the bed posts

Oh wow, that's a really striking cover. The perspective is particularly superb, it really feels like she's surrounded by the swords, to very menacing effect.

Damn man this is awesome, the way they're arranged both in space and still make an effective graphical pattern, great!

Out of curiosity, have you ever done the Three of Swords? I'm looking for tattoo ideas...

What I love is that the swords aren't casting a shadow on anything (from what I can tell). It makes it seem more dreamlike.

I think some highlights are needed on the blades to make it more edgy, that's what makes Freddy Kruger so awesome

Wow, you did an amazing job on the swords, especially! I always have trouble with the perspective on blades, and have had to resort to using Sketchup sometimes. Did you just freehand these??
