so forgive me for rendering trees... I havnt felt well but I wanted to get this done. plus I really really really don't like doing "leafy" trees.also there isn't a real prompt that goes with this so but I need it for the story so just some misc art for Crow. ^^
Previously: Long ways from home
The initial shock took some time for Rohain to were off, everywhere was her eyes, men, women, the children all had her eyes. pale blue like the sky, the shimmer of glacier ice, or the last glimps into a pool of water. Rohain had to brace himself heavily on crows back his leg nearly wanting to give out at this point. "Crow stay steady, please" Rohain strained a whisper to his companion as he continued to limp unable to hide it any longer. He looked around most of the village was in their tents only faint glows from the small fires that kept them warm at night glowed.
Crow looked around taking measured steps to keep in line with his tamer, watching the other strange humans walk around them. most of the camp was in there leather caves, sound asleep, only young children cried out to their families whimpering to be fed. Crow could sense his handlers pain, each step his weight became more and more on the saber's back and the limp became more and more noticeable. Crow chuffed at Rohain, hoping he knew that he wouldn't let anything happen to him. Crow saw a large hut being guarded, a familiar scent wafted through, making his blood almost run cold as he did. He tried to block it out by focusing on the fact he was glad his tamer didn't have his sense of smell.
Soon the Hunt leader was the only one walking with Crow and Rohain, even his son had gone to his home in the herd of tents.
"You are welcomed to stay in this tent, it is for guest's crossing the mountain pass in the spring, but it is empty now." The Hunt leader rolled a large leather flap up revealing a large interior two or three times the size of Rohains tent in his own tribe. "But, even though so far you have proved to be friend, don't make the mistake we have let our guard down. once this season already we have been deceived, and we will not repeat that again." Rohain looked at the man, he had questions but the moon had already made her way across most of the night sky and standing any longer would mean more pain.
"I understand, I thank you for your hospitality." Rohain did a small polite bow and headed inside, having the roll unfurl behind him leaving him to kindle up a small fire.
It didn't take long for a small fire to warm up the large tent, smoke trailing through a large hole in the top. Rohain undressed down to his bare skin, taking time to examine his scars each of which burned hot. he sprawled on the mammoth pelt that laid over pine needles. his saber crawling next to him. Rohain ran his fingers down the scars wincing in pain as he did, but getting small relief when the muscle underneath began to unwind. he got his leggings back on and got a small pelt blanket to sleep under, as soon as his head his the pelt he fell into a deep sleep.
Crow didn't not sleep, though the saber was very tired from the exhausting climb and lack of food, though he was able to get some of the meat that was stored in the tent, he couldn't sleep with the knowledge of who was being guarded in the tent not two mammoth lengths away. He watched his tamer sleep guarding though out the night, until the sky began to lighten and the birds began to chip did Crow sleep for a short span. He woke to Rohain fully dressed talking to the hunt leader who instructed them to wait in the tent.
Rohain sat on the pelt with crow taking out his totem it had the same marks as the ones on the entrance way bars with triangles in between each line. "Crow, I don't know if this means I found her or not but I am going to ask the chief about her, I mean what else could it mean running into her symbols." Rohain looked at the little bear on the string, his saber looking intently at it as well, not noticing the shadow that began to enter the doorway.
"ah, there is the little black cat, and his tamer I presume?" a old voice rang through the door. forcing the both of them to look up, the old man didn't look like much but even Crow could feel the authority he held. "Are you with the other one?"
"Other one? I don't understand?" Rohain answered.
"The one who wears the same tattoo's, elk tribe."
Rohain could feel his heart in trying to pound its way out his chest. "I was following a man, he..., he killed my father. I was ..." Rohain looked down, he felt ashamed for wanting to actually say he wanted to kill the Roan. it should be the Chiefs decision not his. "I don't know what I would do if I found him. we fell in one of your hunters traps, what ever trail I have on him is most likely gone." the old man looked at him, the near white blue eyes seemed to look into his soul.
"There is more you want to ask. I can tell, but first I believe the man you seek has already been captured, he tried to steal from us, and when we offered our food and shelter he repaid us by trying to sneak into a young girls tent. This man has no clan anymore, that clears my mind of starting a war. He will be dealt with, you can tell your chief that when you go back home." Rohain couldn't believe that even this far from home, Roan was going to pay for his crimes.
"I do have something to ask you, five summers ago I was on my rite of passage, and a lone saber attacked me. I would have died if not for a woman, near my age saving me. I never got her name but I can never forget her eyes, blue like the glacier ice, and like most of your villages eyes. do you know this shamen healer?" Rohain held out his totem his heart pounding hoping the wise man would know. he watched the ice blue eyes examine the stone bears marks and then took a deep breath.
"this woman, she was of this clan, but six summers ago she left to find herbs for her master as she was an apprentice, we never saw her again, and you are not the first to have seen her, which gives us hope she is still alive, but also makes us sad at heart that she does not return. though you are the first to have been healed by her and receive something from her, and that makes my old heart hope that my little aurora is still alive." The old man patted Rohain's Shoulder, "you should take to her mother, a beast speaker, there are a couple of sabers that wandered up last night looking for you and your little Crow."
Rohain thanked the man and with a little guidance found the beast speakers tent and there waiting for him was Dawn and a woman that made his heart nearly burst.
