Description It's like chewing on glass
as I think of you
Old memories recalled
are shards in my gums.
What once would have brought a smile
is a sickness in my mouth
like blood and saliva
a wretched poison I can't repel.

What happened to sweetness?
Didn't you hold the remnants of my childhood,
my broken refection in your hand?
Throw them up like cards
at a midnight poker game.
What happened to 'hey-hey I love you'
tuck me into bed,
tell me a story I've never heard?

What happened to ignorance?
When it was just you, me,
movie night with nachoes.
Wasn't it you who promised me security
and painted me venom-dripped dreams?

What happened to us being fighters?
Our backs against the wall
but we're still on the same team
because you taught me how to make a fist
and said that if I keep kicking the way I do
I'm gonna break somethin'
but I didn't change
I thought I got my stubborness from you.

I'm gonna keep pretending
like I don't miss you
I'm gonna go along
and say I'm nothing like you.
I'm gonna close my eyes
and never say
that I think of you nearly every day
when you're in ear shot.

I'm not too far away
but I can't do it
I can't look at you
and tell y ou I forgive you.
I don't know what's considered right
and what's considered wrong
but I'm not ready
to put another fistful of glass shards
in my mouth.
