Description
Yep it's good old Spaceman Spiff! Sent here to give the Hideous Scum Beings of Planet Q-13 Bruises and Stiches! Ha! Maybe even make them wet their Britches! LMFAO! This piece is presented as a homage to the GREAT and GIFTED Artist/Story Teller Mr. Bill Watterson! ( I think he's the GREATEST! ) Now let's get into the piece. Now like all my Art endeavors this piece was not the original concept. This piece evolved into a four of four piece Ace card series. ( WTF! My mind just gave me more to do! LMFAO! ) The series will be about Calves many Alter Egos. Starting with Spaceman Spiff, Tracer Bullet and Stupendous Man. The fourth card will be a cornucopia of most of his others alter Egos, which will make the last card a little more challenging. Ha! The Ace card concept came to me while I was in Deep Artists Block. ( The writers block for us Artsy Fartsy Peeps. ) I was driving to work and for some odd reason the song Ace of Spades from Motor Head popped into my head and Poof! This concept! Hell I might even throw in some jokers to make it a six of six concept piece! ( $&@?! I just thought of this! CURSE YOU A.D.D.! ) CRAP! For now I'll leave it as the Four Aces. As far as the original, well, I might just throw it into the scraps folder. Hmmmm. This Bad Boy was done on my Samsung Galaxy S3 using S.B.P. and Pixlr Express apps from AutoDesk. Finished on 7-11-14. As a side note Calvin and Hobbes has Greatly influenced me in my everyday life. It mirrored my childhood and my imagination always got the best of me! ( Even now it gets me in Trouble! Ha! ) Now I added some of my imagination into the piece with a heads up display, missiles and a inner ring around the edges of his saucer. ( If you zoom in on the H.U.D. you can see the word's Lock On placed at the bottom! SWEET! ) Plus a Very slight change to his goggles. ( VERY SLIGHT CHANGE! ) It's just some little changes to the ingredients make it my own. Hope you all like this piece because for me it's All Aces! HA! I'm so Stupid! lol!Aside from the Ace of Spades song giving me the concept. The Papa Vegas song Beautiful Animal was fueling the fire to draw it out! Like the song states "Beautiful Animal, Babies built for Speed!"

No problem man! Your encouragement really helps me so its only fair that I return the favor. Besides, it's easy when you do such good work!!! I think you have some amazing ideas and I'm looking forward to all of them! Yet, I completely understand about having too many things to do. Lol When I was still drawing on a regular basis I did the same thing to myself. But, all I can say is take your time and enjoy the process! If you rush you'll only make something that you're not proud of.

That's So True Buddy, Soooo True. I'm just tryin to put out quality work. I'm starting to get a technique down so the works starting to flow a little easier. Plus my Artists Block is starting to subside a bit. Thanks again for the encouragement! It does fuel the fire to do more! I also got a CGSociety account. I might be posting work on that site but it will be the same stuff that I got here. I'll be only posting my Best work because the water there has no slouches! Ha! I've only seen professional grade A work so I'm taking the plunge. Bad thing though it's straight computer art. High end Computer Graphics. They do take Android work but they offer no apps. Will see how it goes. The user name is still the same but I'm still in the processes of fixing it up. I'll keep ya posted on that buddy! ( I got butterflys in my stomach just thinking about it! Yikes! ) Check out the web site. That's where the Pro's go! ( and I'm no pro! LMFAO! )

I had never heard of CGSociety until you mentioned it so, I went and looked it up. I can see why you have butterflies in your stomach! I was just in awe of what I saw there! But, from what I've seen of your work, you'll fit right in!!! At some point I would love to be that good and be able to create works like that! Yet, I can only dream and work at it. Maybe one day I will be good enough to be considered professional! Anyways, I will go check out your page and maybe that will give me some encouragement on continuing my Facebook page. Lol

Thanks Buddy! Yeah for right now I'm waiting to submit! I want to put some info behind the pieces! Will see and as for you. Your young Bro. The more you draw the more you'll grow into your own style and technique. Maybe some day we'll both be professional!! lol! Put your work on Facebook and see how that goes 2! It doesn't heart to try!

Yeah, I've been putting my work on Facebook, for the most part (I will not put up the Pokemon stuff there), and not getting much response other than from my mother. Lol And I know I'm young but, I just feel like it's too late for me to actually make anything of myself. [I had a long response typed out that went way too personal and way to long to be on your piece so I replaced it with this. Lol] So, good luck with the CGSociety, I know you will do great with it!!! If you're really wanting to be a graphic designer professionally I would suggest checking out Roberto Blake on YouTube (if you haven't already). He has some really good videos about being a designer, what it takes, how to become one, and what the business is like. I'm subscribed to him and follow him on Google+. Lol

O SWEEEEEEET! I'll check it out! I'm just sad to see ya feel that way. I think your over thinking the "I think it's to late" part. I'm 43 and I just recently got into some type of groove. It took me 5 to 6 year from now to get to here. I Say don't think of it as a job think of it as a hobby. Learn what they have to offer but all the while learn as you go. I've work with people who have the degree and if you look at there work you'd say W.T.F.! I've seen your work and you have gr8 potential. I know I can be pushy and for us Artists self doubt can be a B***H but I think you put to much pressure on your self. The reality of it all is that even on this site, ever one, the good, bad and all inbetween are here. There are alot of very good Artists here that go nowhere but here. I'm here to tell you from personal experience that I see alot if peeps with degrees and I can draw circles around them. That's the reality. If you don't try than you'll be always thinking of the what ifs for the rest of your life. You have room to grow, I've seen your work. It is more than what I've started with 5 to 6 years ago and that's no lie...

Well, thank you for the encouragement. I know I can be hard on myself and most of the time I cannot help it. It goes a lot deeper than just my art. However, that's for another conversation (if you want to know message me on here or Facebook). I'm just to a point now where I'm finally getting out of default regarding my student loans and will be able to go back to school here soon. And I don't really want to go into a computer science degree like I was originally wanting to do. So, I had been thinking about getting a degree in graphic design or some other creative field. In the end I just want to be able to make enough money to support me and my fiance, and potential kids, support her after I'm gone, and have a job where I'm not failing every day and I'm at least good enough to stay at a job for longer than 3-6 months. Lol If it's something I can enjoy well, then that's a bonus. Lol Anyways, I really do appreciate all your encouragement and kind words, it does really mean a lot to me.

No problem Buddy! I really like our conversation! I say try and make a go at the Graphic Design school. I think this field would be a good fit for you! If it's what you want I say grab it while you can, you only live once! Go for it Bro! You can always pick my brain dog and I'll try And help anyway I can buddy! I think you can do it and it doesn't hurt to try. One you start getting a feel for the craft you'll be locked in the clutches of something you love. You have potential buddy! I've seen your work and I hear the love for the field you wish to pursue! You just got to believe in yourself dog! The only person holding you back is you! Don't listen to anyone who may say your not good enough because I think you are so make a go at it! You'll be a happier man if you try...

Well, thank you, I really appreciate that. I'm actually starting to feel the creativity starting to flow. Granted, it's still slow but, it's starting! I'm even working on an original character right now. It's going slow but, I'm happy with it so far. I thank you for your kind words and encouragement. The funny thing is, other than maybe my brother (who I haven't expressed this desire to yet), I'm the only one who says I'm not good enough to pursue anything in the creative field. Everyone I talk to says that u have the potential and that I'm good. And you're not the first person that says I would fit into the industry. I actually had the lab tech say the same thing when she was drawing blood for some tests my fiance needed. So, you're right, I'm the only one holding me back. Now I just have to figure out which school is the best and what would work. Lol

Yep there all correct! I know you can do it! Like I said you can pick my brain dude because I'm not going anywhere! I'm always Down for helping a fellow Artist! Out here in Cali. There a ton of schools but where your from, well, you guess is as good as mine but try and find a school that the credits transfer over. If that doesn't bother you the Art Institute is always good or the schools that are showcased on D.A. are great 2! Good luck bro! My address on D.A. will always be here! You can count on it! Just feel free and ask...

Well, thank you!!!! As far as schools, there really isn't anything out here in Colorado but, I'm probably going to be moving to Phoenix at the beginning of the year so, I have to look at that. I've really been thinking about the Art Institute but, I'm just nervous about that because it's somewhere around $80,000 for a bachelors in graphic design (at least at the institute of Denver) and they are a for profit college. I'm already in debt $20,000+ to a for profit school with nothing to show for it. Also, I don't know how credible the diploma is to employers. I don't want to be like those who went to ITT Tech, University of Phoenix, DeVry University, or other for profit schools that screwed them over. So, I have a lot of work to do for that. I just wish I could actually go to a regular school but, there is no way I could get in. Horrible GPA's, no SAT or ACT's, and I've already flunked out of college twice!!!! But, that's just me rambling again! Lol I guess I will figure out what schools D.A. showcases and look into them too. I mean, it's at least a place to start! Lol

Yeah, I'm looking into some free courses and other stuff. Maybe go look at some books at the library or something. I don't know. Just, in reality, I have a LONG way to go before I can even think about college. The bad thing is that I won't be able to afford the actual payments with the department of education so, I have to go back to school so I don't have to pay. But, it may work out in the end, who knows. Anyways, thanks for the advice.
